Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

When you pray for a job, remember the Apostle’s words: “If any man will not work, neither let him eat.” This is not harshness but a spur to diligence, that you might shake off idleness and seek honest employment with all your might. Yet do not make your peace depend on finding a position that delights your every desire, for often God gives us what we need rather than what we crave. As the breast is sweet to the nursing child, but the parents anoint it with bitter herbs when the time for weaning comes, so the Lord sometimes places us in circumstances that seem bitter to wean us from a love of ease and teach us to hunger for Him. If the work is in His will, receive it with thanksgiving, whether it be exalted or humble, and from that place you may share the gospel. The true fulfillment is not in the perfect team or manager, but in doing all as unto Christ.

Concerning your finances, recall what we are taught when we leave the assembly. Do not rush headlong into the distractions of the marketplace the moment you depart; go home, take the Scriptures in hand, and call your household together. Let the psalms and the reading of holy things be your comfort when impulses to spend arise, for the soul that is filled with spiritual songs is not easily overcome by the clamor of covetousness. Sing psalms, and you will discover a delight far deeper than any purchase can give. That is the draught that clears the mind; the other, like drunkenness, distorts the eyes and makes the tongue stammer. So when you feel the pull toward reckless spending, treat it as a child’s foolish passion. Laugh at it inwardly, and starve it by turning to prayer and sober reflection. The man who is longsuffering and self-controlled enjoys a profound calm, like a harbor untouched by storms.

Now, as for your children and their father. You pray that your children be returned to you, and you add, “if in God’s will.” That is a right submission, yet do not then become agitated if the answer tarries. Observe how Pharaoh’s decree sought the death of every male infant, and Moses’ parents trusted God, seeing that the child was fair. Grace stirred the heart of the Egyptian woman, a foreigner and a stranger, to compassion. God is not bound by human will; He can turn hearts in ways you cannot foresee. Therefore, commit your children to His care daily, and entreat Him rather than reproaching the one who withholds them.

But be warned: do not let a spirit of bitterness or anger make you like a worthless child, storming and filling the house with confusion. The angry man is more senseless than a child; when a child strikes you in a fury, you do well to laugh at his folly rather than become a child yourself. Endure with longsuffering, that you may be as adamant, unable to be wounded by insults. This is how you will win your own soul and perhaps even show that man a better way.

You also pray for him, that he may see the error of his ways, that he abandon the abuse of strong drink, and that he receive sound psychological help. These are good petitions. For nothing so disfigures the soul as drunkenness; it steals coherent speech and makes a man a stumbling block. Pray indeed that he be filled, not with wine which leads to debauchery, but with the Spirit, learning to sing psalms instead of satanic songs. And if he resists counsel, do not grow weary in well doing. Sometimes God permits a man to reap the whirlwind of his own choices so that he might awake from his slumber, like a child roused from sleep. In the meantime, guard your own heart, that you be not dragged into his chaos, but stand firm in faith, keeping your conscience pure and your hands busy with honorable work. Let your life be so ordered that the message of Christ may be seen and heard, even by those who oppose you.

There is a story in the oldest parts of Scripture about a man who lost everything, including the comfort of those closest to him. He cried out for a job, not in the sense we usually mean, but he ached for a purpose and for his life to make sense again. He wanted his family to be whole and his body to be strong. More than anything, he wanted an answer. What he got instead were friends who studied his life from the outside and decided his suffering must be his own fault. They told him to just get right with God, as if his pain were a simple equation. Their words, meant to explain God, only brought greater confusion.

Your prayer carries a similar weight. You are not asking for luxury. You are asking for a job you can love, a place where you can work with people you enjoy, and the simple gift of financial responsibility. You are asking for the wisdom to stop impulsive spending, especially when waiting for a better financial position feels slow and stressful. That honest desire for a comfort to replace the spending is a subtle but profound prayer: you are asking God to be enough when other comforts are withheld. That is not a desire rooted in greed. That is the cry of a heart wanting to honor God.

The old story reminds us that a spiritual battle raged unseen behind the man’s troubles. You are asking for your children to return, but you are also acknowledging the unseen war in another person’s life. You see the error of using alcohol to cope, and you see the need for a correct evaluation and psychological help. It is right to pray for God to show someone their own error. But you cannot force that revelation. In that ancient account, the man’s friends gave harsh speeches based on what they could see, but they did not know what God was doing in the heavens. We do not know exactly how God is working in that situation either, but we do know He is a God who binds up wounds. To discipline and to turn a person away from what is destructive is a demonstration of love, not abandonment. Pray for that intervention, but leave the timing of the revealing to God.

When the man in the story spoke, he often spoke from his grief, not from perfect doctrine. He felt God had put his feet in the stocks and was watching his every misstep. He was innocent of the great sin his friends accused him of, but he still needed to see God more clearly. When God finally spoke, the man did not get a direct answer to why he suffered. He got something better: a glimpse of God Himself. That was enough.

Your financial discipline will not come from simply trying harder in your own strength. It will come as you, like that man, come to know God not just as the One who blesses you with a new job, but as the One who is your portion when the job hasn’t come yet. If God withholds something you impulsively want to buy, it is not a punishment. It is a redirection. A true child is trained away from harm. Let that discipline be a comfort, knowing it comes from a Father who is fair and just.

The most desperate cry of that old saint was for a daysman, a mediator who could lay his hand on both God and man and bring them together. We do not need to cry out in the dark for such a mediator anymore. One has been given. When your request is heavy for your children, for your finances, and for that other troubled soul, you do not have to fear that God cannot see you through the clouds. You can seek unto Him and be at peace because the daysman has already made the way.

Hold onto that. Your story is not yet over. Pray for the process of healing for the one who copes with alcohol, that the correct diagnosis would come. Pray that your children are safe. And hold your own heart in check, refusing to turn your spirit against God even when you cannot understand His ways. That is the definition of patience that endures.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer these past days. It has been our joy to lift your heart before the Lord, asking Him to open the right door for meaningful work—a place where you can thrive, serve with joy, and share the love of Jesus with those around you. We have prayed alongside you for financial responsibility, wisdom in spending, and peace when the path feels uncertain. We have also held your children close in prayer, asking God to soften hearts, restore relationships, and guide every step according to His perfect will. We asked the Lord to reveal truth to all involved, to bring healing and clarity, and to protect minds and hearts from harmful patterns.

If God has answered any part of your prayers—whether through a job offer, a change in circumstances, a moment of financial breakthrough, or a shift in your children’s hearts—we would love to celebrate with you. Please share a praise report so we can rejoice together in His faithfulness.

If, however, the wait continues and the answers are not yet clear, we encourage you to post your request again. We remain committed to standing with you in prayer, trusting that God hears every cry of your heart. He is working even when we cannot see it, and His timing is always perfect.

May the Lord continue to draw you closer to Himself through His Son, Jesus Christ. May He fill you with peace, strengthen your faith, and remind you daily that you are deeply loved. We pray all these things in the powerful and precious name of Jesus. Amen.
