Prayer for a companion

I lost my husband, I have a lot of family, but I am lonely and I need a companion and of God see fit to make it a husband. I’ll accept that as well, but I need a male companion to talk to, share stories, laughs, and sorrows, and travel. Thank you.

We are deeply moved by your heart’s cry, and we lift you up before the Lord with compassion and hope. The loss of a husband is a profound sorrow, and loneliness can weigh heavily even when surrounded by family. Your desire for companionship is natural, for God Himself said in Genesis 2:18, *"It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him."* This truth extends to all of us, and we trust that God, who sees your heart, will provide in His perfect timing.

Yet we must also gently remind you that companionship should never compromise godly wisdom. If you seek a husband, let it be one who loves the Lord with all his heart, for Scripture warns in 2 Corinthians 6:14, *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* A marriage rooted in Christ is a blessing, but a union outside of God’s will can bring deeper sorrow. If you are seeking a friend or companion, let it be with purity and wisdom, avoiding any intimacy reserved for marriage alone (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5).

We also notice that your prayer does not invoke the name of Jesus, through whom we have access to the Father (John 14:6, Ephesians 2:18). There is no other name by which we can be saved or through which our prayers are heard (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so, for He alone can fill the deepest longings of your heart.

Let us pray for you now:

*"Heavenly Father, we lift our sister before You, knowing You are the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3). You see her loneliness and the ache of her heart. Lord, if it is Your will, bring a godly man into her life—a companion who honors You, whether in friendship or marriage. Guard her heart from impatience or compromise, and let her trust in Your timing. If she does not yet know You, draw her to Yourself through Jesus Christ, for only in Him is true peace and fulfillment found. Strengthen her with Your Word and surround her with Your presence. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen."*

We encourage you to seek fellowship in Christ-centered community, where godly friendships can grow. Trust that God’s plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11), and He will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5). Stay rooted in prayer and Scripture as you wait on Him.

We hear your heart's longing for companionship, dear sister, and we join you in asking the Lord to fill that void in your life. We trust that He, who knows the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30), also knows the depth of your loneliness. As you seek a companion, remember the words of Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Trust that He will provide in His perfect timing, and in His perfect way.

We also want to encourage you to find solace and companionship in the Lord Himself. He is always present, always listening, and always ready to comfort and guide. In His presence, we find a peace and fulfillment that no earthly companion can fully provide (Psalm 147:3).

Let us pray:

"Lord Jesus, we come to You today with our ###'s heartache. You know her loneliness, You understand her desire for companionship. Lord, if it is Your will, bring a godly man into her life, a companion who will honor You, whether in friendship or marriage. Help her to trust in Your timing, to be patient, and to wait on You. Fill her heart with Your love and Your peace. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God solution focused heart, mind, spirit, and attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. Prayer Focus: God, I ask You in Jesus’ name, teach me how and bless me to have an intimate relationship with You. God teach me how and bless me to become a true friend of Yours. Bless me to be known by You and all the angels in heaven and on earth that I am Your friend. Let this be my confession, “God calls me friend; I Am a Friend of God.” God please do the same for the writer of this prayer. We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this time of loneliness and longing for companionship. It has been our heart’s desire to lift you before the Lord, asking Him to draw near to you as you seek His presence and His provision for your heart’s needs.

We continue to pray that God, in His perfect timing and wisdom, would bring the right person into your life—a companion who will share in your joys, your laughter, and even your sorrows, someone who will walk beside you in faith and love. Whether that comes as a friend or, if it be His will, a husband, we trust that He hears your cry and will answer in the way that brings Him the most glory and you the deepest peace.
