pray

Thank you for sharing this request and for wanting God at the center of your marriage. I am praying for you and your wife that the Lord will give you a truly peaceful week together in Jesus name, with no fighting but with kindness, patience and understanding toward one another.

Scripture teaches that in marriage the two become one. It is a compound unity, two lives joined into one life, and it reflects the oneness of the Lord Himself. That kind of unity is only sustained when God is at the center. When self is at the center, life quickly feels empty and frustrated, and conflict grows. When Christ is at the center, He brings purpose and love that holds you together.

Real peace does not come only from trying harder or from simply believing that God exists. Many believe in God but have not yet entered a living, life changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Peace in the home flows from that relationship. Jesus alone can forgive sins, and He came not for those who think they are well, but for those who know they need a physician. As you both look to Him for forgiveness and for help, He can do what you cannot do on your own.

Jesus showed His authority when He rebuked the wind and said to the sea, peace be still, and the storm became calm. It is the same authority with which He set people free from spiritual bondage. He can speak that same peace over the storms that rise between a husband and wife. He can calm the sudden wind, the harsh word, and the restless heart.

It helps to be rooted and grounded in the Word of God. Jesus described seed that sprouted quickly but had no root, so when the sun came it withered. A marriage without depth in the Word will wither under pressure. But when you are planted deeply in what God has said, you can endure and bear fruit. Also be aware that sin can work like leprosy, which destroys the nerves so a person feels no pain and can be injured without even realizing it. In the same way, unkind words, resentment, or selfish habits can numb the heart, and you can wound one another without sensing how deep the hurt goes. Bring those things quickly to the Lord for cleansing and healing.

My prayer for you both is this. Lord Jesus, thank You that You are the only provision for our sins and the only source of true peace. We ask You to be Lord in this home. Forgive where forgiveness is needed, heal where there has been hurt, and teach this husband and wife to put You first and to prefer one another in love. Speak Your peace over this week, calm every storm, and help them to be rooted in Your Word so that love, gentleness and self control grow. Make their marriage strong in You, one heart joined together in Your love. Amen.
