pray as I so want to end the cycle of porn and deliver my body

We hear your cry and we join with you in wanting to see this cycle broken and your body delivered and set apart for the Lord. We understand the shame and the struggle that comes with pornography, and we want you to know that God sees your desire for freedom and He is able to deliver you completely.

We must speak plainly that pornography is sin before a holy God. It is not harmless entertainment. Our Lord Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Pornography feeds lust, it is fornication of the heart, it distorts the good gift of sexuality that God designed to be enjoyed only within the lifelong marriage covenant between one man and one woman, and it defiles the temple of the Holy Spirit. Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 to flee sexual immorality, that every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, and that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in us, whom we have from God, and we are not our own, for we were bought with a price, therefore we are to glorify God in our body and in our spirit, which are His. We also read in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 that this is the will of God, our sanctification, that we abstain from sexual immorality, that each of us know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor.

We also notice your request simply says pray, but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We gently remind you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and it is only through Him that we can be saved and delivered. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is not by our own willpower that the chains of pornography are broken, but by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and calling upon His name for forgiveness and power to overcome. In 1 John 1:9 we have the promise that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God does not want you to remain in this cycle of defeat. He wants to make you new. We love the prayer of Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, renew a steadfast spirit within me. He wants you to present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God as Romans 12:1 teaches, and to not let sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey its lusts as Romans 6:12 says.

We want to encourage you with practical steps as you seek deliverance. We must make a covenant with our eyes as Job did in Job 31:1 and cut off the sources of temptation radically, for Jesus taught if our eye causes us to stumble we must deal with it decisively. We must bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ as 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, replacing what is impure with what is pure, thinking on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely and of good report as Philippians 4:8 instructs. We must walk in the light and confess to a trusted mature Christian believer for accountability, for James 5:16 says confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. And we must submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, and he will flee from us as James 4:7 promises, relying daily on the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, for Psalm 119:9 asks how can a young man keep his way pure, by living according to your word.

We now pray together for you.

Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this dear one who longs to be free from pornography and to deliver his body to You. Lord, we confess this sin before You and we ask for Your forgiveness through the blood of Jesus. Wash him clean, create in him a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within him. Break the chains of lust and addiction that have bound him, and by Your Holy Spirit give him power to flee sexual immorality and to walk in purity. Help him to hate what You hate and to love what You love. Teach him to take every thought captive and to set his mind on things above. Give him strength to cut off every way of access to temptation, to guard his eyes and his heart, and to present his body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. Surround him with godly accountability and encouragement, and let him know the joy of forgiveness and a clear conscience. Fill him with Your Spirit so that he may glorify You in his body and spirit which are Yours. We thank You that whom the Son sets free is free indeed, and we claim that freedom for him now in Jesus name. Amen.

We encourage you to stay close to Jesus each day through prayer and reading Scripture, to memorize verses like 1 Corinthians 10:13 and Psalm 119:11, and to not be discouraged if the battle is not won in a single moment. God is faithful, and He will provide the way of escape. Keep seeking Him, keep repenting quickly when you stumble, and keep trusting that His grace is sufficient to keep you and to make you holy.

This struggle can feel very lonely, and shame often keeps it going in secret. We have seen that trying harder alone rarely brings lasting freedom. What tends to help most is bringing it into the light with another person who can walk with you steadily, not just in the moment of temptation.

One practical step that helps many is to choose one trusted, mature believer, a pastor or counselor, and invite them into regular, honest check-ins. Give them permission to ask you direct questions and to know how you are really doing week to week. Pairing that with simple barriers on your devices, so you are not relying on willpower alone when temptation comes, can give you space to choose differently. If this has been a long pattern, meeting with a counselor who understands sexual addiction can also give you more tools and support alongside prayer.

We are praying for you for strength for today, for peace in place of shame, and for wisdom as you take these next steps. God is patient with you as you learn to walk in freedom.

Father, we lift this dear friend to You and thank You for the desire for freedom You have placed in their heart. Give them courage to reach out and not walk alone, grace to keep getting back up, and steady help they can trust. Guard their mind and body and lead them day by day toward wholeness. The desire you have expressed to be delivered from this cycle and to yield your body wholly to the Lord is itself a gracious working of His Spirit, for the heart that truly hates its sin is already being drawn toward holiness.

Scripture warns us plainly that when lust has conceived it brings forth sin, and sin when it is finished brings forth death. Purity is not optional, for without holiness no man shall see the Lord. Yet charity without purity is of no use, and purity without the power of God is impossible. You cannot by mere resolve break these chains. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He must bring you forth.

Be encouraged that God has not only invented a way of deliverance, but has found a ransom. His own Son has borne the penalty of iniquity, and through Him there is undeserved deliverance from the pit. The Lord Jesus does not leave His people under the dominion of darkness, but delivers them and makes them partakers of the Divine Nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. What you need is not only forgiveness for what has been done, but a higher nature born in you by regeneration which lifts you into fellowship with God and gives you power to walk in newness of life. That deliverance is of the Lord, and He will accomplish it by His own power as you look to Him alone for both justification and sanctification.

Let us pray together for you.

O Lord God, who hears the cry of those who seek Thee, look with tender pity upon this soul who longs to be free. Thou hast said, I have found a ransom, and we rest upon that finished work of Christ upon the cross. Forgive all sin through His blood, and now by Thy Spirit deliver from the power of this corruption. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within. Take this body, which Thou hast made and which Thou wouldst make a temple of the Holy Ghost, and keep it pure and chaste before Thee. Grant strength to flee from every occasion of lust, to turn the eye and the thought from evil, and to walk in that holiness which Thou hast ordained, where all such intimacy is kept within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Let Thy grace be sufficient, and let this one prove experimentally that Thou hast delivered us, so that henceforth he may not go into sin by way of pleasure, but may live unto Thee. Bring forth with deliverance also enrichment of soul, joy and peace in believing, and keep by Thy power until the day of full redemption. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and righteousness. Amen.

Rest your soul upon Him and God will yet come to your deliverance. If He grants you freedom, as we trust He will, you shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. Confess your struggle to a faithful pastor or mature believer who can walk with you, keep close to the Word, flee the places and screens that ensnare you, and look daily to Christ, for He it is who brings His people forth and keeps them.
