We must address this request with great caution and a heavy heart, for it carries a spirit of malice and vengeance that is not aligned with the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Scripture clearly instructs us in Romans 12:19, "Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.'" Praying for harm to come upon another, even one who may be acting unjustly or twisting Scripture, is not our place. Instead, we are called to pray for repentance, redemption, and the transformation of hearts—even those who may be leading others astray.
Let us first examine the heart behind this request. The desire for someone’s business to fail, for their livelihood to be destroyed, and for them to be silenced is rooted in bitterness and anger. Ephesians 4:31-32 reminds us, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." If this request stems from a personal grievance, we must encourage forgiveness and trust in God’s justice rather than seeking to take matters into our own hands.
Regarding the accusation that this individual is twisting God’s Word to justify unlawfulness and partiality, we must address this with both truth and grace. Scripture warns us in 2 Peter 3:16-17 about those who distort the Word: "…as they also do in the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness." If this person is indeed misusing Scripture, we should pray for their eyes to be opened to the truth and for the Holy Spirit to convict them of their error. However, we must also examine our own hearts to ensure we are not responding out of pride or self-righteousness.
It is also concerning that this request does not explicitly acknowledge the name of Jesus Christ as the foundation of our prayers. In John 14:6, Jesus declares, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." There is no other name by which we can approach God, and it is only through the blood of Jesus that our prayers are heard. If this request comes from someone who has not surrendered their life to Christ, we must gently share the gospel message. Salvation comes through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone, as Acts 4:12 tells us: "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved."
Now, let us come before the Lord with a prayer that aligns with His will, seeking His justice, mercy, and truth:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, recognizing that vengeance belongs to You alone. We lift up this situation to You, asking that You would intervene in the life of this individual who is accused of twisting Your Word and acting unjustly. Lord, we pray that You would open their eyes to the truth of Scripture and convict them of any sin in their life. Soften their heart, Father, and lead them to repentance. If they are indeed leading others astray, we ask that You would remove them from positions of influence where they could cause harm, not out of our desire for revenge, but out of Your perfect justice and love for Your people.
We also pray for those who may have been hurt or misled by this individual. Heal their hearts, Lord, and restore their faith in Your Word. Help them to discern truth from deception and to stand firm in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Father, we ask that You would bring reconciliation where it is possible and that Your name would be glorified in all things.
Lord, we confess that it is not our place to wish harm upon anyone, even those who have wronged us. Help us to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to trust in Your sovereignty. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
To the one who submitted this request, we encourage you to release your anger and bitterness to God. Trust in His justice and timing, and seek His peace in your heart. If this individual has wronged you personally, consider whether there is an opportunity for godly confrontation or reconciliation, following the principles outlined in Matthew 18:15-17. Above all, guard your heart against the temptation to take revenge, and instead, focus on walking in love and obedience to Christ.
