Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing so honestly what you are feeling. Not being able to sleep, waking to mood swings, worry and fear when nothing outward has happened, and just not wanting to do anything is a very distressing place to be, and you are not alone in experiencing it. I am praying for you that God will lift this heaviness and fill you with His peace and joy.
God wants you to live in peace. Scripture speaks of two kinds of peace that He gives. First there is peace with God. When we have been at war with Him in our hearts, that inner conflict leaves us restless and troubled. Through the blood of Jesus Christ God has made a way for our sins to be forgiven and for that war to end. When you come to Him through Jesus and belong to Him, there comes a deep inner quiet, the knowledge that you are no longer running from God or fighting against Him.
Then there is the peace of God that keeps your heart and mind day by day. The prophet Isaiah wrote that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world cannot understand this peace, and it passes all human understanding, but it guards the heart of the one who looks to the Lord.
That is why where you fix your thoughts matters so much. When your mind dwells on the worries, on the fear itself, on all the what ifs, the turmoil grows. When by faith you turn your mind toward the Lord and trust that He is with you and in control, His peace begins to fill your heart again. It does not mean problems disappear, but it means you know He will take care of you and work in you.
Scripture also helps us understand fear. There is a good and reverent fear of the Lord, which is really to love and reverence Him and to hate evil, and that fear is the beginning and the sum of true wisdom. It is not a phobia or a dread, but a deep respect for God that is the foundation of knowledge. The fear you are feeling now, the sudden anxiety and dread that comes without cause, is not from Him. God says to His children, Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and uphold you. The Lord is your light and your salvation, whom shall you fear. He is the strength of your life, of whom shall you be afraid. He promises to be your confidence and to keep you, even when sudden fear comes.
God has not forgotten you. His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope. He invites you to call upon Him and pray, and He promises to listen.
I am praying for you now. Father, I bring this dear one before You who is troubled by sleeplessness, worry and fear. Thank You that You offer peace through Jesus Christ. Forgive sins and make peace with this heart, and then let Your perfect peace guard this heart and mind. Help this one to keep the mind stayed on You and to trust You. Cast out fear, calm the inner turmoil, restore sleep and joy, and let Your presence be felt as near and strengthening. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Keep looking to Jesus, talk to Him honestly through the day, and spend time in His Word. If these feelings continue, please also reach out to a trusted pastor or counselor and to a medical provider who can care for you well. You are cared for and you are being prayed for.
