Hi. My name is Shelley and I live in California. The prayer request that I am sending you is for my friend, unnamed, who is a 75- year-old American woman who runs an orphanage in Zimbabwe. Most Americans don’t even know that Zimbabwe exist, nor it’s location, nor what is happen there right now. Having been a former British Colony some thirty years ago, their gained independence began the decline of any sanity. In a nutshell, there is political unrest because of a corrupt election process; the economy is sky rocketing so fast that the prices of items change not on a daily basis, but on an hourly basis. Grocery markets stand with empty shelves, which seems so ironic since Zimbabwe was once called “the breadbasket of Africa”. There has not been bread available for many, many weeks; children are literally digging in the dirt in hopes of finding worms or insects that they immediately consume. It is now wintertime and parent-less sibling units are sleeping in the bush, sometimes just dying from exposure. Meanwhile, President Mugabe is killing off any opposition leadership, in addition to any voice who might dare to oppose him. Last week, the newly elected major of Harare – the capital city – found his wife with her face blown off; routinely men disappear for days, weeks at a time only to reappear having been beaten to within breathes of death. Not all survive, and because my friend attempt to provide medical supplies – casting material, bandages, IVs, medication, etc – she now has threats on her life, yet, she carries on. I just attempted to call her, only to have one of the British volunteers answer to tell me that my friend was off to the hospital with several of the orphans who are ill. I could go on and on, just like the state of affairs in Zimbabwe.

My prayer request – Mugabe has told the western press that only God can remove him from office. I’m bold enough to ask God to do exactly that. Many weeks ago, in-country newspapers were reporting that Mugabe’s military generals stated that if a white (person) were to kill Mugabe, all whites within the country would be slain as retribution. Therefore, I am asking Father to protect my friend; may her angels be seen attending her as she attends to so many needy persons there. Everyone outside of Mugabe’s government is starving – not just that food is hard to find, not just in short supply, but literally vast numbers of individuals are starving. My friend found a “village” of seniors, the youngest being in her late 60’s, the eldest being in his 90’s – 34 persons total – living without electricity, nor running water. They had had the presence of mind to fill their bathtubs before the water was turned off. A NGO worker had provided each of these elders with 6 carrots and either your choice of an apple or a tomato…and they were thrilled. Many of them have been without their prescribed medications for months and they are suffering, so, I am asking Father to rescue the whole nation from their suffering.

I think that you’ll find it ironic that the mail service is still intact when the rest of the governmental services are or have crumbled long ago, so, my husband and I are preparing United States Flat Rate Large Boxes full of dried fruit, dried vegetables, rice, and our packing material is oatmeal. Please pray for safe delivery of these boxes, because I forgot to tell you that Mugabe has suspended NGO’s ability to pass out food until after the election… so babies die and old people long for their death date.

The night before last (Monday night) a “gang” of young men attempted to storm the orphanage grounds, gardens, and buildings. The local “chief” talked them out of their plans, yet my friend knows that this action will happens sooner or later because of the local perception that she gets things done – builds buildings, plants orchards, supplies medicines, and feeds up to 2200 people each month – and all of this equates money in their eyes. Lawlessness and hunger do amazing things to one’s lack of ability of process clearly…

Please pray for the next three days. You are not the only prayer organization that I am sending this request. In the past I have asked you to pray for a marriage that seemed from a human perspective could not survive, and with their thirtieth anniversary coming up, I composed a note and emailed it to hundreds of prayer groups so that all of us could be praying for them on their anniversary date, and, they are still together and much, much, much better. I owe it all to your prayers, so I am boldly asking again, of you - and of our God.

You will only have to watch an international news channel to see if our prayers are answered. Thank you for your time in reading all of this, I’ll hug you sometime in eternity.

Father, allow us to think outside of our own circumstance and pray for others in peril. There is so much activity going on in the world, strictly intended to hurt others, disrupt lives, advance personal agendas. We pray for the innocent people of Zimbabwe and ask that Your hand of protection be over Your children. May Your wrath and justice be administered to those who seek to destroy others to advance their own ideals. You are a God of power, strong to save. Please bless these fellow people and be with them in grace, mercy and strength. Remove those from power who seek self-righteous glory, and return these hearts unto You. Amen.
