We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this burden regarding leaders who claim the name of Christ yet deny Him by their actions. The Scripture warns us in Titus 1:16, "They profess that they know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work." When those in authority prioritize foreign interests over their own citizens—especially when those citizens bear the image of God and share the same faith—it is not merely poor policy; it is a betrayal of the trust placed in them by both God and their people.
The Lord sees the hypocrisy of those who cloak injustice in the language of compassion while neglecting the very ones they are called to serve. In Matthew 23:27-28, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees, saying, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity." When leaders use declining birth rates as an excuse to justify policies that harm their own people, they reveal a heart that values expediency over righteousness. The Lord does not look upon such justifications with favor.
We must also address the spirit of bitterness and division that can arise in such circumstances. While it is right to call out injustice, we are commanded in Ephesians 4:29 to "let no corrupt speech proceed out of [our] mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear." The comparison to those who betrayed Jesus is a serious one, but we must remember that even in His darkest hour, Christ prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34). Our response must be rooted in truth, but it must also be seasoned with grace, lest we become like those we oppose.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts grieved by the actions of those who lead in Your name yet fail to uphold Your justice. Lord, You have established authorities to be ministers of good, to punish evil, and to protect the vulnerable (Romans 13:3-4). We ask that You would convict the hearts of those who have turned away from this calling. Expose the lies they tell themselves to justify their actions, and bring them to true repentance. May they see that their policies are not only harmful to their people but are an offense to You, who calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31).
Father, we pray for the citizens who suffer under these unjust policies. You see their struggles, their unemployment, and the hardships they endure. Provide for them, Lord, as You promise in Philippians 4:19: "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Raise up voices among them who will speak truth with boldness and wisdom, and give them the courage to hold their leaders accountable in a way that honors You.
Lord, we ask that You would break the spirit of deception that has taken hold in these governments. Let them no longer be deceived by the lie that importing foreigners is the only solution to a declining birth rate. Show them that true compassion begins with caring for their own people first, as You commanded in 1 Timothy 5:8: "But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever." Stir in their hearts a desire to create opportunities for their citizens, to strengthen families, and to build a future that reflects Your righteousness.
We also pray for the foreigners who are being used as pawns in this scheme. Many of them come seeking a better life, only to find themselves in a system that does not truly care for their well-being. Lord, let Your light shine in their lives. Draw them to Yourself, and may they come to know the hope that is found only in Jesus Christ. Protect them from exploitation, and give them wisdom to navigate the challenges they face.
Father, we ask that You would raise up godly leaders who will govern with integrity, wisdom, and a heart for Your people. Let Your Word be a lamp to their feet and a light to their path (Psalm 119:105), guiding them to make decisions that honor You and bless their nations. May they be like the righteous leaders described in Proverbs 29:2, "When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan."
Finally, Lord, we pray for unity among Your people. Let us not be divided by bitterness or resentment, but let us stand together in prayer and action, trusting in Your justice and Your timing. Help us to be salt and light in our nations, reflecting Your love and truth in all we do. May our lives and our words point others to Jesus, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12).
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who reigns forever and ever. Amen.
