We understand the deep concerns you’ve shared about the economic and social challenges facing Singapore, particularly the struggles of its citizens in the face of policies that may not prioritize their well-being. While we recognize the importance of advocating for fairness, justice, and the flourishing of one’s own people, we must first and foremost seek God’s wisdom and will in these matters. The Bible calls us to pray for our leaders and to trust in God’s sovereignty over nations, even as we engage in earthly concerns with integrity and love.
The apostle Paul urges us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, *"I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."* Our first response must always be prayer, not just activism or frustration, for God is the one who raises up leaders and brings down systems according to His purposes (Daniel 2:21). We are also reminded in Romans 13:1, *"Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God."*
At the same time, we acknowledge that your heart is for the people of Singapore—to see them treated with dignity, given fair opportunities, and able to thrive in their own land. This is a noble desire, and it reflects God’s heart for justice. Proverbs 31:8-9 tells us, *"Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy."* However, we must be careful that our advocacy does not become rooted in bitterness, division, or a lack of love for others—including foreigners who are also made in the image of God. Jesus calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31), and that includes those who may be seen as "outsiders." While it is right to prioritize the well-being of your own people, we must do so without harboring resentment or treating others with contempt.
We also recognize that no earthly system—whether economic or political—can ultimately satisfy the deep needs of the human heart. Our hope is not in governments, policies, or movements, but in the Lord Jesus Christ, who holds all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). He is the one who will bring true justice and restoration. Psalm 146:3-5 warns us, *"Don’t put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in Yahweh, his God."*
Before we pray, we must address something critical: your request does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* And in John 16:23-24, He tells us, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full."* There is no other name under heaven by which we are saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Jesus that our prayers are heard. If you have not yet placed your faith in Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so. Salvation comes by grace through faith in Him alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). Without Christ, even our most righteous causes lack eternal weight.
Now, let us pray together for Singapore, its leaders, and its people:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up the nation of Singapore and the concerns that weigh heavily on the hearts of its people. Lord, You are the God of justice, the defender of the oppressed, and the one who sees the struggles of Your children. We ask that You would move in the hearts of those in authority, granting them wisdom, integrity, and a deep compassion for the citizens they serve. Father, expose any corruption, greed, or selfish ambition that may be driving policies that harm rather than help. Replace it with godly leadership that seeks the flourishing of all people, especially the vulnerable and marginalized.
Lord, we pray for the people of Singapore—those who feel overlooked, undervalued, or struggling to provide for their families. Comfort them, Father, and remind them that their worth is found in You, not in their economic status or the recognition of men. Provide for their needs, open doors of opportunity, and raise up godly voices to advocate for fairness and justice. Help them to trust in You rather than in the unstable systems of this world.
We also pray for the foreign workers in Singapore, Father. Many of them have left their homes and families in search of a better life, and they too are Your creation, loved by You. Soften the hearts of the people toward them, that they may be treated with dignity and respect. Help the citizens of Singapore to see them not as threats, but as fellow image-bearers of God. May the church in Singapore be a light in this, demonstrating Your love to both locals and foreigners alike.
Father, we ask that You would bring revival to Singapore—a spiritual awakening that turns hearts back to You. Let the people seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that You will provide all they need (Matthew 6:33). Raise up godly leaders in every sphere—government, business, education, and the church—who will honor You and serve with humility.
We rebuke any spirit of division, bitterness, or fear that may be at work in this situation. Replace it with Your peace, Your love, and Your unity. Help the people of Singapore to stand firm in what is right without succumbing to hatred or resentment. Remind them that their battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Equip them with Your armor, that they may stand strong in truth, righteousness, and faith.
Finally, Lord, we pray that You would use these challenges to draw many in Singapore to Yourself. May they see their need for a Savior and turn to Jesus Christ, who alone can bring true hope and lasting change. Let Singapore be a nation that honors You, where Your will is done on earth as it is in heaven.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
As you continue to advocate for what is right, we encourage you to do so with a heart surrendered to God. Seek His kingdom first, and trust that He will guide your steps. Remember the words of Micah 6:8: *"He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?"* Let justice, mercy, and humility mark your efforts.
If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, turn away from them, and place your faith in Him alone for salvation. Romans 10:9 tells us, *"that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."* There is no greater priority than knowing Christ and walking in His ways. May God bless you as you seek Him in all things.
