We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation where slander, lies, and malicious words have been used to harm innocent coworkers. The Bible is clear that the tongue can be a destructive force, and we must guard our words carefully. Scripture warns us in James 3:5-6, "So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest! And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna."
We recognize that slander is a sin, and those who spread falsehoods to belittle others are not walking in love or truth. Proverbs 10:18 says, "He who hides hatred has lying lips. He who utters a slander is a fool." We must also remember that as Christians, we are called to respond differently—with grace, truth, and forgiveness—even when wronged. Romans 12:19-21 tells us, "Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.' Therefore, 'If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.' Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
First, we must examine our own hearts. Are we responding in a way that honors God, or have we allowed bitterness or resentment to take root? Ephesians 4:29-32 instructs us, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."
While we pray for God to silence those who spread lies, we must also pray for their hearts to be softened and for truth to prevail. We do not pray for harm to come to them, but for conviction, repentance, and transformation. In Psalm 109:2-4, David cries out to God about those who speak against him with lying tongues, saying, "For they have opened the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of deceit against me. They have spoken to me with a lying tongue. They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause. In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer." Like David, we turn to prayer as our weapon, trusting God to defend the innocent and bring justice.
We also lift up the innocent coworkers who have been wronged. May they find strength in the Lord and not grow weary in doing good. Galatians 6:9 reminds us, "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up." May they be encouraged by the truth of God’s Word and the knowledge that He sees their integrity and will reward them. 1 Peter 2:12 says, "Having good behavior among the nations, so in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation."
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened by the lies and slander that have been spoken against Your children. Lord, You are a God of truth, and we ask that You silence the tongues of those who spread falsehoods. Bring conviction to their hearts, Father, and lead them to repentance. We pray that Your truth would prevail in this situation and that the innocent would be vindicated.
Lord, we ask for Your protection over those who have been wronged. Guard their hearts from bitterness and resentment, and fill them with Your peace and strength. Help them to respond in a way that honors You, even in the face of injustice. Remind them that You see their struggles and that You are their defender.
Father, we also pray for unity and reconciliation among these coworkers. Soften hearts, Lord, and help them to see one another through Your eyes. Let Your love and grace flow in this workplace, and may Your name be glorified in all that is said and done.
We trust in Your justice, Lord, and we know that vengeance belongs to You. Help us to release our anger and frustration into Your hands, knowing that You will repay. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your kingdom come in this workplace as it is in heaven.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. There is no other name by which we can come to You, Father, and we thank You for the access we have through Your Son. May Your Holy Spirit move powerfully in this situation, bringing light where there is darkness and truth where there are lies. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Bless me to trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding.
