We are reminded that there is a laudable pursuit in business, without which our daily callings would not be properly carried on, yet there is a line scarcely as broad as a razor's edge between diligence in business and greediness for gain. It is good to ask the Lord to order such matters, but it is better still to make our own business to be our Father's business, for if you make your own business God's business, you will do your business well and be found useful in your day and generation.
We therefore pray not only for the seller to act justly and for the offer to be considered with fairness, but that whether the offer is accepted or not, you may know the contentment which the Scripture commends when it says, Be content with such things as ye have, for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. If we have God's presence, God's help, God's covenant favor and His gracious providence, what more can we need. The Lord is able to open doors no man can shut, and He often comes flying as it were upon the wings of the wind to display His favor toward His people, yet His wisdom appoints what is best and His timing is perfect.
Let us pray together. O Lord our Father, Thou knowest the desire of this Thy servant concerning this transaction in California. Thank you for sharing this request and for wanting to bring this practical need before the Lord. It is right to bring even the details of daily life to Him in prayer, and He hears when we call on the name of Jesus.
Scripture reminds us that God sees and God provides. The same word that speaks of His vision speaks of His provision. He knows the situation with the RV and the offer that has been made, and nothing is hidden from Him. At the same time the Bible teaches us to keep our hearts centered on a greater purpose. When Jesus was a boy He said He must be about His Father's business, and that became the burden of His whole life, to do the Father's will. That is a helpful pattern for our prayers as well, to want what the Father wants even more than we want a particular outcome in a transaction.
The law in the Old Testament required sacrifices without blemish, perfect and acceptable to God. It would not receive what was bruised or flawed or merely leftover. That teaches us something about how we come to God now. We cannot offer Him our own goodness, because our lives are not perfect, and the law was never given to make us righteous but to show us our need for a sacrifice for sin. The priests under that law had to offer first for their own sins before they could offer for the people. But Jesus, our great High Priest, is holy and without sin and offered Himself once for all. His one sacrifice is complete and needs no repetition. Because of that we can come to God with confidence, not on the basis of our works but through faith in what Christ has done.
God also showed in His law that He leaves room to work beyond what people think is possible. He made provision for the cleansing of a leper, a disease that had no human cure, so that if He chose to heal, there was a way for that person to be restored. We should never put God in a box. He is able to do a miracle, and He is also wise and loving in how He answers.
So we will pray for this sale in that spirit. We ask the Lord to work according to His wisdom and goodness, to give you peace as you wait, and to provide what is best. If it is His will for the seller to accept this offer today, we ask Him to open that door. If He has another direction, we ask Him to make that clear and to provide in another way. Above all we pray that your heart will be about the Father's business, trusting His provision for your deepest need, which He has already met in Christ, and trusting Him also for this daily need.
