Pray for ongoing struggle with depression and motivation

Ghoiroth

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for me. I have been a faithful servant of Jesus for over 40 years. Through out I have been occasionally struggling with a form of depression. I want deliverance from this difficult situation. Thank you

We hear your cry for help, dear brother in Christ, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting you up before our Heavenly Father. Forty years of faithful service to Jesus is a testament to your love for Him, and we know that He sees your struggle and holds you close in this season of heaviness. Depression is a very real battle, but it does not define you, your identity is rooted in Christ, who has already overcome the world (John 16:33).

The Scriptures remind us that even the righteous face trials, but God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We rebuke the spirit of despair in Jesus’ name, for He came that you might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). This battle is not yours alone; the Lord is your strength, and He will sustain you (Isaiah 41:10).

We also encourage you to seek godly counsel and support from fellow believers, as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). Sometimes, the body of Christ is the very hands and feet of Jesus in our lives, providing encouragement and accountability. If this depression has led to isolation, we pray that God would break those chains and draw you into deeper fellowship with His people.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our dear brother, who has served You faithfully for decades. Lord, we ask that You would lift the weight of depression from his heart and mind. Fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and renew his strength like the eagle’s (Isaiah 40:31). Father, we rebuke every lie of the enemy that seeks to steal his joy and motivation. Remind him of Your unfailing love and the hope he has in Christ. Surround him with Your presence, Lord, and let him feel Your arms of comfort. Provide him with godly community and wisdom to seek help if needed. We declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37). In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Remember, dear brother, that your labor in the Lord is never in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). Even on the days when motivation feels distant, God is working in you and through you. Keep pressing into Him, for He is faithful to complete the good work He began in you (Philippians 1:6). You are not forgotten, and your struggle is seen by the One who bore all our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4). May He fill you with fresh hope and purpose as you continue to walk with Him.

We hear the weight in your words, forty years of faithful walking with Jesus, and yet this familiar struggle still returns. That kind of persistence can be deeply wearying, and we're sorry you're carrying it again.

Sometimes what makes depression so disorienting, especially for long-time believers, is the gap between what we know is true and what we're able to feel in a given season. That gap isn't a failure of faith. The Psalms are full of people who loved God deeply and still cried out from dark places. You're in honest company.

You mentioned both depression and motivation, and they often feed each other. Depression drains the energy to act, and then the lack of action reinforces a sense of being stuck. If this has been a recurring pattern over four decades, it may be worth inviting outside help alongside prayer, not because prayer isn't enough, but because God often works through those with training to help us untangle what's persisted. A wise pastor or a Christian counselor could walk with you through this current stretch and help you understand what tends to reignite the struggle.

For now, we're simply grateful you reached out. That took effort, especially when motivation is low.

Lord Jesus, You know this child of Yours by name and You've walked with them through every valley these forty years. Meet them now where the darkness feels heavy again. Grant them enough energy for today, nothing more is required, and surround them with people who can carry hope when theirs runs thin. Bring skilled help into their path and give them courage to accept it. We ask for healing in Your way and Your timing. In Your name, Amen.

A long and faithful walk with the Lord is no stranger to the valley you now tread. Egypt may very fairly represent those states of sorrow and sadness, depression and oppression, into which God’s people come far too frequently. If you are like the preacher, you are by no means a stranger to inward sinking. Yet mark this well: the healthy soul is not the one that never knows the mists of melancholy, but the one that, even in the gloom, clings to the immutable promise. “I am the Lord, I change not.” If some temporary depression of spirit should just now overwhelm you, believe that if He hides His face, He still loves you.

You have prayed long for deliverance; you feel worse after you have prayed. So it was with that woman of great faith, and still her suit prevailed. The morning comes. It is not for long that Christ’s mercy can be restrained. He must break forth. The clock of mercy struck in Heaven the hour and moment of deliverance before you ever drew breath, for the eternal purpose decreed it. What has He begun in you these forty years if not a work that He will most certainly perform until the day of Christ? That doctrine stands bound up with the gospel itself. Take a ticket all the way through; get a salvation which covers all risks.

That life imparted to you at regeneration is immortal and eternal. The Spirit abides with you forever. When a man stands in water, the flood might drown him, but as long as his head remains above water, the stream cannot drown his feet. “They shall never perish.” This is not mere endurance in misery, but perseverance in holiness. “They shall not depart from me.” You have a deliverance from the archers of ecclesiastical discord; you have peace within your borders. So too shall He deliver you from the pit of despond. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance, through a ransom, if God had not invented it. He has not only invented a way, He has found a ransom. Let this truth pour its sovereign balm into your heart: you are not left to forge your own deliverance from this darkness.

Let not the arrow of accusation strike you, whispering that God’s ear is shut. That thought leads to sin. He who loved you without beginning will not make an end of loving you now. “He delights in mercy.” His compassions fail not; therefore you are not consumed. The righteous shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall wax stronger and stronger. Go, speak no more to the pitiless winds of your own feelings, but muse upon His person, think upon His wounds, long for His advent, and so drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem. Soon you shall lift up your head.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your forty years of faithful service are well known to the Lord, yet He permits this thorn to remain, not from neglect, but to perfect your strength in weakness. When the righteous are near the end of their struggles, God often intensifies the conflict, as He did with Abraham, so that the final reward becomes more glorious. Do not seek your rest here, for our hope is laid up in heaven, secured by the word of truth. The long-suffering born of love is a great and impenetrable soul, quenching every spark of trouble that falls upon it, leaving it undisturbed. This trial itself can become a short and easy path of deliverance if you turn it inward: search your heart for any root of unforgiveness, for to forgive others releases a heavy burden without toil. If Paul was delivered from the lion's mouth, He will deliver you from every evil work, not always by removing the affliction but by supplying grace to endure. Stand firm, for He who was made a little lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor through suffering, walks with you, and the end of these conflicts is near.
