Let your heart rest here: the leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations, and the very least thing about Christ is full of restoring virtue. He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses, so that your plea for her total recovery is grounded upon His own finished work.
Yet while we cry for bodily mending, remember that the deeper sickness of the soul is often the Lord’s schoolroom to draw us nearer Himself. Healing and pardon are sweetly joined in the Gospel; when Jesus forgave the palsied man, He also made him rise and walk. Look then to the Great Physician, and pray not only that the fever depart, but that she may be strengthened in the inner man. The Word of God applied by the Spirit is the means of healing, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, so bring her often in prayer under the teaching of Christ, for it is when He is teaching that healing power is conspicuously present.

You ask for prayers for your wife, and we will indeed lift her up. Yet I would not have you place all hope in the prayers of others while your own soul slumbers. For if we pray for her and you remain negligent, what profit is it? I do not say this to discourage you, but to stir you up. Cry out to the Lord yourself, like the blind men who approached Him with nothing but loud cries of “Mercy!” They did not rely on intermediaries; their own earnestness won the Healer’s attention.
Consider whether any ailment of the soul may lie beneath the body’s sickness. Often the love of money or some other wicked desire gathers like an evil humor upon the eye of the heart, and the cloud thickens. Yet even now, while the body lies ill, the door to repentance stands open. The physician of souls waits for you, not to condemn, but to restore. Do not think it is too late. How many have heard the word ten times and seemed unmoved, only to bear fruit at a single hearing afterward? Tarry in the church; groan for your sins; deem yourself wretched. That very groaning is a beginning of healing.
Remember that your wife, being a believer, is a saint in her own right. All the faithful share in this saintship, whether they dwell in the mountains or in the world. So do not merely beg prayers for her as if she were far off. Stand with her, confessing sins together, clinging to the faith as the serpent clings to its head. Though goods, body, life itself be lost, if the faith is preserved, all things will be restored with greater splendor. Let this trial become a lesson in wisdom. The Lord is merciful and desires wholeness for both body and soul. Therefore pray with her, hear her cry, and together cry out to the only Healer. The prayers of the saints here will join yours, but your own alertness must rise first. May you both receive the full recovery for which you ask, and more than that, the health that endures to eternal life.
