Pray for my ### struggling with addiction

Greetings in the Mighty Name of Jesus, I humbly request urgent prayers for my children who are struggling with addiction to alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. One son is so bad he developed fatty liver and other health conditions due to his excessive drinking and has received a warning from work, he gets behind the wheel under the influence, he is lost his faith in God just losing all direction in life . I am afraid of losing all my children to alcoholism like their father who died a few months ago. Thank you all. God bless

We join you in lifting up your children before the throne of grace and we thank you for coming in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. We are grieved to hear of this heavy burden you carry, the loss of your husband just months ago and now the fear of losing your children to the same bondage of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. The Lord sees your broken heart and hears your cry. Psalm 34:17-18 says The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

We must speak the truth in love about this addiction, because God calls us to sobriety and self control. The Word tells us Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 and Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8. Your sons are not only harming their own bodies which are meant to be temples of the Holy Spirit, Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, but when one gets behind the wheel under the influence he endangers the lives of others and this must stop immediately. This is sin and bondage, but we serve a God who breaks chains. For sin will not have dominion over you. Romans 6:14 and If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36. No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13.

We encourage you to continue to pray without ceasing, but also to walk in wisdom and loving boundaries. Addiction thrives in secrecy and enabling, and true love does not shield a person from the consequences that may bring them to repentance. We urge you to encourage your sons to seek godly counsel, pastoral support and professional help for detox and healing, and to be surrounded by believers who will hold them accountable. For your son with fatty liver and the warning at work, we pray this becomes a merciful wake up call before more severe judgment comes. God can heal his body, but he must turn from what is destroying it. We also pray for the restoration of his faith, for when we lose direction it is because we have drifted from the Shepherd.

Do not let fear consume you. For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. The Lord says Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. And In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.

We pray together with you now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You with this dear parent’s aching heart. Lord, have mercy on these children bound by alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. Break the yoke of bondage over them and set them free by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Convict them of sin and draw them to repentance and to faith in Jesus. Lord, we ask for healing for the son whose liver is diseased and whose body is weakened, touch his body and give him the will to turn away completely from drinking and to be filled with Your Spirit instead. Protect others on the road from harm and stop him from driving under the influence again. Remove the craving for drugs and tobacco and restore a sound mind. Restore his faith where it has grown cold and restore direction and purpose for all of these children. Comfort this mother in her grief over her husband and guard her from fear, fill her with Your peace and strength to stand firm, to love without enabling, and to trust You with her children’s lives. Surround this family with godly support and lead these sons to godly community and to help that honors You. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, Amen.

We thank you for trusting us with this heavy burden. To have lost your husband just months ago and now watch your children struggle in the same way must be exhausting and heartbreaking, and we hear your love and fear so clearly, especially for your son whose health, job and safety are at risk and who feels far from God right now.

You are not carrying this alone, and your children do not have to find their way toward healing alone either. One thing we have seen help many families is steady, caring community around both the person who is struggling and the family who loves them. Addiction tends to isolate people and to damage the very relationships they need most, while trusted support makes honest steps possible.

As we continue to pray with you, we encourage you to help your son see a doctor promptly for his liver and other health concerns, alongside prayer not instead of it, and to help him connect with ongoing support. Many families find help through a pastor or Christian counselor and through a recovery community like Celebrate Recovery or Alcoholics Anonymous where a sponsor and group can walk with him regularly. For the driving while under the influence, please consider clear boundaries for everyone's safety and bring in other trusted family or church leaders to help you hold them. And please let others support you too as you grieve.

Father, we lift this dear mother and her children to You. Comfort her in her loss, guard her children from harm, and draw each heart back to Yourself. Give them willingness to reach for help, give her wisdom and strength for each day, and surround this family with faithful people who will walk with them. Lead them in Your mercy and grace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your sorrow has been poured out before the Lord and we have heard your cry with deep sympathy. To watch children walk in the way of destruction, to see a son given over to strong drink until his body fails him and his work and life are imperiled, and to fear the same snare that took their father, is a trial that must indeed bow the soul to the dust. Yet take heart, for the Lord has not shut His ear against the prayer of a grieving parent.

You fear that God has forsaken you and your house, but it is not so. The enemy whispers that there is no help in God, yet the record of His mercies denies it. Did He forsake the Hebrew children when the furnace was white with heat, yet their hair was not singed. Did He forsake Daniel in the den. In all these things His people are more than conquerors through Him that loved them. If He has chastened sorely, it is the chastening of a Father who would not leave His children to perish unwarned, and even now His hand is able to deliver from the pit.

There is deliverance only in Christ Jesus, and that deliverance must be of free grace alone. No man can deliver himself from the bondage of sin, whether it be drink or drugs or unbelief. The sinner can do nothing and he knows it, until the clock of mercy strikes and God declares, I have found a ransom. That ransom is the precious blood of Christ, who alone is the way of salvation. It is not in the power of the creature, but in the outstretched arm of Jehovah. He must bring them forth, as He brought Israel forth when the lamb was slain. And what He has done for others He is able to do for your sons and daughters.

We read that the leaves of the tree of life were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, and even His leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. There is abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ, not only for the soul sick unto death through sin, but for the body which has been wasted by excess. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee, and pardon and healing were one. Oh that the Sun of Righteousness would rise with healing beneath His wings upon your children and upon that son who has lost all direction and faith.

We will pray earnestly for you and for them, and we entreat you to continue in prayer without ceasing.

We pray that the Lord in His mercy would show your children their need of Christ, that He would grant them repentance and faith in Him who alone can save, that He would break the chains of alcohol and drugs and the love of tobacco and all that enslaves them, and turn their hearts to seek Him. We pray for your son whose health is broken and whose life is in danger, that God would spare his body from further ruin, keep others from harm when he is tempted to drive under the influence, and use even the warning from his work and the sickness of his liver as a solemn call to awake before it is too late. We pray that he who says he has lost his faith may hear again the look of Christ as Peter did, and be restored and made to weep and return. We pray for you, that you may not sink in despair after the loss of your husband, but may find that God is your refuge and that He will keep you and yours.

Cast your burden upon the Lord, and trust that He hears. Bring your children by name before the throne of grace each day, plead the blood of the ransom, and ask that He would make His deliverance effectual. Seek also the help of faithful pastors and godly friends and, where needed, the counsel of physicians, that your sons may be hedged about with care while you look to Christ for the inward change which no man can work.

May the Lord who chastens also restore, and may you yet live to declare the works of the Lord in the deliverance of your household.
