We come before the Lord with hearts full of gratitude that you have sought Him in this time of remembrance for your grandmother. It is clear you hold deep affection for her, and we join you in lifting her memory before the Father. However, we must address something of great importance with love and truth.
Scripture is clear that our prayers are to be directed to God alone, through the mediation of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There is no biblical basis for praying for the souls of those who have passed, as their eternal destiny was sealed at the moment of their death. Hebrews 9:27 tells us, *"It is appointed for people to die once, and after this, judgment."* Once a person has departed this life, their fate is in the hands of a just and holy God. Our focus must remain on the living—sharing the Gospel, making disciples, and living in obedience to Christ.
Instead of praying for your grandmother’s soul, we encourage you to reflect on her life with gratitude for the time you had with her. If she knew Christ as her Savior, you can take comfort in knowing she is now in His presence, free from pain and sorrow. If her salvation was uncertain, let this be a reminder of the urgency to share the hope of Jesus with those still living. The Bible assures us in 1 Timothy 2:5, *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."*
We also notice that you invoked the name of Jesus in your prayer, which is wonderful! It is only through His name that we have access to the Father, as Scripture declares in John 14:6, *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'"*
Let us pray together for you now:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this beloved child of Yours who mourns the loss of their grandmother. Comfort them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and remind them of the hope we have in Christ Jesus. Lord, if there is any sorrow or unresolved grief in their heart, we ask that You would heal and restore them. Help them to trust in Your sovereignty and goodness, knowing that You hold all things in Your hands. We pray that they would continue to seek You, to grow in their faith, and to find solace in Your Word. May they be filled with the assurance that, for those who are in Christ, death is not the end but the beginning of eternal life with You. We ask this in the precious and mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to meditate on the promise of Revelation 21:4, *"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away."* If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior, we urge you to do so today. Believe in Him, repent of your sins, and receive the gift of eternal life. There is no greater hope, no greater peace, than knowing Him. If you’d like to talk more about this, we are here to walk with you in faith.
