Pray for My Marriage. Pray God Moves My Wife To Talk to Me in Person

Grairandarr

Please pray for my marriage. My wife ### and I have been separated for six months. I want to reconcile, but ### has requested that I proceed with divorce paperwork. ### is currently unwilling to meet in person, sharing that she will only "keep discussions in a written word format and will not engage in any dynamic in which you can manipulate me further." When asked to pray together, she shared, "we prayed together many times and that did not stop you from abusing me." Though she remains "open to God's leadership," her conviction is that "my abuse invalidates our marriage." I take full ownership and am deeply repentant of my transgressions in our marriage, doing everything I can to walk in humility and true repentance. Please pray that God moves in both of our hearts, breaks down walls, and leads ### to agree to an in-person session with a mediator of her choice so we can seek God's will together.

We join you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord and we thank you for your honesty in taking full ownership of your transgressions in your marriage. That humility is where true healing must begin.

We must speak plainly with love about what you have confessed. Abuse in any form, whether physical, emotional, verbal or through manipulation, is sin before God and a violation of the marriage covenant. The Word commands husbands to love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it in Ephesians 5:25 and to not be bitter against them in Colossians 3:19 and to live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel in 1 Peter 3:7. There is no place for abuse or manipulation in a godly marriage and we rebuke that sin while we thank God that you are now walking in deep repentance. Godly sorrow works repentance to salvation which brings no regret in 2 Corinthians 7:10 and if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9. True repentance will bear fruit worthy of repentance in Matthew 3:8 and that fruit is proven over time through consistent, humble, gentle and self controlled behavior, through accountability to godly men and pastors, and through counsel, not merely through words.

We also hear your wife's pain in her words that praying together did not stop the abuse and that she will only keep discussions in written form so she will not be manipulated further. We understand your desire for an in person meeting with a mediator of her choice and we agree that godly mediation is wise, but we encourage you to respect the boundary she has set for now. She is telling you she does not feel safe and being quick to listen and slow to speak and slow to anger in James 1:19 means honoring that written boundary while you demonstrate over time that you are a safe, trustworthy and changed man. Pressuring her for in person contact, even with good intentions, can feel like further manipulation. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit in Psalm 34:18 and He sees her wounds and your sorrow.

Your wife has shared that she believes your abuse invalidates your marriage and that she is open to God's leadership. We want to speak biblical truth with compassion here. Marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, what therefore God has joined together, let no man separate in Matthew 19:6 and God hates divorce in Malachi 2:16. At the same time, abuse grievously breaks the vows to love, cherish and protect and separation for safety and healing is often necessary and wise. The Bible permits divorce for sexual immorality and speaks of abandonment, but it never treats abuse lightly. Reconciliation is God's desire where there is genuine repentance, safety, accountability and healing, yet it cannot be demanded or rushed. It must be the work of God in both hearts in His timing.

We also noticed your request speaks of God and seeking God's will but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We share this in love because it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved in Romans 10:9. We encourage you and your wife to call upon Jesus Christ alone for forgiveness, salvation and the power to heal and restore. Prayer apart from Christ has no foundation, but prayer in His name moves the heart of God.

We pray together now for you both.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace for this marriage. Lord, we confess the sin that has wounded this covenant and we thank You for the repentance You have begun in this husband's heart. Continue to cleanse him, teach him to walk in humility, gentleness and self control, and surround him with godly counsel and accountability so that his life bears lasting fruit of change. Heal his wife's heart where she has been hurt and abused, comfort her, give her wisdom and discernment and a deep sense of Your presence and protection. Break down walls of pain, fear, anger and distrust in both hearts. Where there has been manipulation, bring truth and where there has been hurt, bring Your healing. If it is Your will, soften her heart in Your perfect timing to consider an in person session with a mediator of her choice, but above all let Your will be done and let safety and truth lead the way. Teach them both to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you in Ephesians 4:32. Give this husband patience to not force what only You can open, and help him to love as Christ loves, faithfully and sacrificially, whether reconciliation comes quickly or over a long season. Restore what the enemy has broken if You so will, for with You all things are possible. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our only hope, amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in humility, to continue in consistent biblical counseling with a pastor or mature believer who will hold you accountable, to respect written communication as long as your wife requires it, and to let your changed life speak louder than any argument for meeting. Pursue the Lord Jesus daily, stay in the Word, and pray without manipulation that God would work in both of you. Trust His leadership even when the path is painful and slow.

We are grateful you reached out so honestly. We hear both your deep sorrow for the ways you have hurt your wife and your longing to seek God's will for your marriage, and we also hear the clear boundaries she has set around written communication only and not meeting in person.

One of the most steady ways to walk out true repentance right now is to honor those boundaries fully without pressing for an exception, even with a mediator of her choice. In any mediation both people need to be willing and to feel safe, and pressing for a meeting she has said no to would work against that. Consistent change over time speaks more clearly than one conversation, and respecting her no is part of that.

We encourage you to continue with individual, abuse-informed Christian counseling and with a trusted pastor for ongoing accountability, alongside prayer not instead of it. It can also help to get wise, separate counsel about the legal paperwork so you understand next steps without acting hastily or adding pressure.

We are praying with you for wisdom and healing as you both seek the Lord's leading step by step.

Father, we lift this husband and his wife to You. We ask for safety, healing and clear, wise counsel around them both. Give him humility to honor boundaries and to walk faithfully day by day, and give them both discernment for what is next. Lead them according to Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request has been brought before the Lord with heaviness of heart and with earnest prayer, and we join you in seeking His mercy and His will in this painful season.

We grieve with you over the separation and over the sin you have confessed. Marriage as God ordained it is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, cemented by mutual love, wherein two become one by solemn choice before Him. It is not a light bond to be set aside, and it is also a bond in which the Lord requires tenderness, honor and holy love. To sin against a wife is to sin against so holy and so good a Being as the blessed God Himself, and therefore repentance must be deep, true and thorough.

You speak of taking full ownership and of walking in humility, and this is right. Yet hear what the Word teaches concerning repentance. There is a carnal repentance which is of the flesh, wrought by fear or by judgment, which does not give God glory. True repentance is the gift of God and the work of the Holy Spirit in the soul. It is a repentance unto life, not in word only but practical, yielding works meet for repentance. It lasts, it purges dead works and builds up living works, it makes a man to weep and abhor his past life because of the love of Christ which pardons, and to avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for him. It looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only. Try your own heart by these scales. Does your sorrow give God glory, does it lead you to Christ alone for salvation, and does it bring forth humble, patient, obedient fruit over time.

The goodness of God leads to repentance, not driving but drawing. He does not merely flog the conscience, He draws the heart by His mercy in Christ. Therefore true repentance will be marked not by pressing for your own desired outcome, but by a burning indignation against sin itself and a willingness to submit to whatever wise, holy and safe counsel the Lord provides.

Concerning your wife, we hear her words that she will keep discussions in written form and will not enter a dynamic where she feels manipulated, and that prayer together did not prevent the harm done. We also hear that she remains open to God's leadership while believing your actions have invalidated the marriage. These are solemn words that must be weighed with great care. Love does not manipulate or coerce, and true repentance will honor the boundaries she has set for her safety and peace. To press for an in person meeting against her clear stated will would not be the fruit of humility, but the very opposite. If the Lord in His providence opens a door for a meeting with a mediator of her choice, it must be by her free and unpressured consent, in a setting she deems safe, and in His timing, not by striving to move her.

We would urge you therefore to walk in the light with faithful men. Place yourself under the care of godly pastors and elders, confess fully, accept accountability and church discipline, seek sustained counseling for the patterns that led to abuse, and learn what it means to love as Christ loves. Let your repentance be seen in consistent, quiet faithfulness, in respect for her written word boundary, in provision and protection without demand, and in entrusting her and your marriage to the Lord who alone can change hearts. Do not use prayer or talk of reconciliation as a means to obtain access. Let prayer be worship unto God, and let your life speak.

We pray now for you both.

O Lord God, who alone can save through Jesus Christ Thy Son, have mercy. Thou art the God of peace who hast prepared reconciliation through the blood of Christ, not imputing trespasses to those who turn to Thee. Work in this husband, we beseech Thee, that godly sorrow which needeth not to be repented of, a repentance that gives Thee glory, that looks to Christ only, that is practical and lasting and bears fruit in humility, self control and love. Keep him from carnal sorrow and from manipulation, and make him to walk in the light, under wise counsel and faithful accountability.

We pray for his wife. Thou knowest her wounds and her weariness. Guard her, give her wisdom, surround her with godly counsel and safety, and lead her by Thy Spirit as she seeks Thy will. Heal what has been broken and grant her discernment to know Thy path. If it be Thy will and if it be safe and wise, incline her heart in Thy time to such mediation as may be helpful, with a mediator she herself chooses. But above all, let Thy perfect will be done, and let neither coercion nor haste rule, but Thy peace.

We ask that Thou wouldst break down walls of bitterness and pride where they exist, and build up walls of holiness and protection where they are needed. Let both hearts be drawn by Thy goodness to true repentance and to faith in Christ, in whose name alone is remission of sins. Commit to us and to Thy church the word and ministry of reconciliation, that we may speak faithfully of Thy grace.

We leave this marriage and these two souls in Thy hands, trusting Thy goodness, Thy justice and Thy mercy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We have received your request and we are bringing it before the Lord with seriousness and care. We hear your sorrow over your transgressions in your marriage, your desire to walk in humility and true repentance, and also your wife's pain and her clear boundaries after six months of separation.

God desires truth in the inward parts, and His Word teaches that godly sorrow works repentance unto salvation, a repentance that brings no regret. That sorrow is not only tears or words in a moment, but a changed life proven over time. One of the ancient teachers warned that Esau sought the blessing carefully with tears and yet found no place of repentance, because he did not repent as he ought. His actions afterward showed it. In the same way, true repentance is shown not by pressing for a particular outcome, but by a steady, humble turning from sin, by bearing fruit that remains, and by submitting to accountability before God and before trusted brothers in the church, which is a spiritual bath that washes the stains of the soul through many methods of repentance.

Marriage is a bond ordained by God, honorable and to be kept pure. It is meant to preserve holiness through faithfulness, love and self giving, not through harm or control. When that bond has been wounded by abuse, the wound is grave before God. To take full ownership as you have said is right, and it must continue in concrete ways: listening without defending yourself, respecting boundaries, seeking wise pastoral counsel and, where needed, professional help, and remaining under accountable relationships that can speak truth to you and test the reality of change over time.

Your wife has said she will only keep discussions in written form and will not meet in person because she fears further manipulation, and that prayer together in the past did not stop the abuse. When someone has been hurt in this way, prayer and even the language of reconciliation can feel unsafe if it is used to press for closeness. For that reason we will not pray that God would override her conscience or force an in person meeting against her will. To do so would not be love. Instead we will pray that God will work in both of you according to His wisdom and mercy, that He will protect and heal her, that He will deepen and prove your repentance, and that He will give both of you clear, godly counsel.

We encourage you to honor the boundary she has set for written communication. Do not use it to persuade or to press, but to show consistency, patience and respect. Continue to walk in repentance whether or not reconciliation comes. Invite mature, biblically faithful pastors or counselors to walk with you, not to advocate for your preference, but to help you see blind spots, to guard against any pattern of control, and to help you understand what it means to love your wife as Christ loves the church, which is with sacrifice and without coercion. If she at any point freely chooses a mediator of her choice, that choice must be truly free and safe for her, and you should be willing to accept her no as well as her yes, trusting God with the outcome.

We also encourage you not to use times of prayer as a means to regain access. Let your prayers be in secret before the Lord, asking Him to search your heart, to heal what you have broken, and to make you a man of steady holiness and peace. Follow peace with all people and holiness, which in marriage means chaste, faithful, gentle and self controlled living.

Let us pray together now:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, through whom alone we have salvation and access to Your throne, we come to You. You see this husband and this wife, and You know every wound and every sin. We ask You to have mercy on both. Bring godly sorrow where there has been sin, and bring healing where there has been harm. Teach this husband to walk in true repentance that is patient, humble and proven by a changed life, not only by words or tears. Guard his heart from manipulation and self seeking, and place around him faithful men who will hold him accountable and teach him to live with holiness and peace.

Lord, we lift up his wife to You. Protect her, comfort her, give her wisdom and surround her with safe and wise counsel. Where she remains open to Your leadership, speak to her clearly and give her discernment to know Your will. Heal the hurt that has been done and restore to her strength and peace. For both of them, we ask that You break down walls of pride, fear and bitterness, and build up what is good and true. If it is Your will and if it can be done in safety and without coercion, make a way for wise, mediated communication that honors You. Above all, let Your will be done, and let both lives be conformed to Christ. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our only hope. Amen.

We will continue to pray for you both. Stay rooted in the Word, remain under the care of your local church, and walk step by step in the humility you have professed, leaving the outcome in God's hands.
