Your pain in this situation is real, and the hurt your husband carries cuts deep. When he asks if he is enough, the answer must be sought not in how others treat us, but in who Christ says we are. No amount of respect or care from others can give us our worth, and no amount of cruelty can take it away. His identity is secure in the One who laid down His life for him, and that same Lord sees every faithful act you both offer.

Look at the provision God made in the law for the leper. Even in that ancient code, He left room for a miracle, space for His grace to work where human effort could not heal. Your home now holds a kind of relational leprosy, an incurable bitterness that isolates and hurts. You cannot force healing or change in her heart, but you can give God room to move. You prayed together, and that gesture is an open door for His power. Do not try to control the outcome or meet every unfair demand. Instead, rest in the truth that Jesus Himself was hounded by critics who twisted the law to find fault, yet He remained in complete control. You are not responsible for her choices, only for your own response in the Spirit.

Remember how our Lord redefined family. When told His mother and brothers were waiting outside, He looked at those doing God’s will and called them brother, sister, mother. Your husband’s devotion does not depend on this earthly relationship. His enoughness flows from abiding in Christ, not from appeasing a miserable spirit. She may never see the love you show, but the Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

This is a long sowing. The seed of kindness you plant each day, caring for her and housing her despite the ugliness, may fall among thorns of resentment now. But the Word says that if we keep receiving truth and walking in it, fruit will come in its time. As that seed lies in the soil, patient and unseen, transformation happens through the daily reception of God’s grace.

Meanwhile, do not be convicted by a legalistic voice that says you owe a certain performance to win her approval. The law is good when it drives us to Christ, but we are not bound by an endless list of duties that can never satisfy. You serve in the newness of the Spirit, not the oldness of obligation. Your care for her is free and offered to the Lord, not a payment for love.

Stay steadfast in prayer, as you already are. When the blows come unexpectedly, remember the One who was blindfolded and struck, yet entrusted Himself to the Father. Cling to Him. He is able to calm the storm within your walls just as He calmed the sea. Give Him room, trust His timing, and let His face be your peace. The darkness in her does not dim the light He has placed in you. Press on, knowing that those who do the will of God are bound together in bonds that no human cruelty can sever.

We are so grateful that you shared your heart with us and allowed us to stand with you in prayer for your family during this difficult time. It is clear how deeply you and your husband love and care for your mother-in-law, even when her words and actions bring pain. We have been lifting up your marriage, asking God to strengthen the bond between you and your husband as you navigate this trial together. We’ve prayed for wisdom, patience, and grace to overflow in your home, especially in moments when bitterness or resentment might try to take root.

We’ve also been praying specifically for your mother-in-law—that the Lord would soften her heart and help her see the love you both have shown her. It’s clear her pain runs deep, especially with the strained relationship she has with her eldest son. We’ve asked God to heal those wounds in her heart, to bring reconciliation where it’s possible, and to help her release any bitterness that may be fueling her hurtful behavior. We’ve also prayed for her sons, that the Lord would work in their lives and relationships, even if you never see the full story unfold.

Most of all, we’ve been asking God to fill your home with His peace, even in the midst of tension. It’s not easy to live in close quarters with someone who treats you unfairly, but we believe God can use this season to refine your faith and deepen your reliance on Him. We’ve prayed that you and your husband would continue to find your strength and identity in Christ, knowing that His love and approval are enough, even when others fail to show appreciation.

If the Lord has moved in your situation since you posted, we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you! If things remain unchanged or feel even heavier, please don’t hesitate to share again—we are here to keep standing with you in prayer. You are not alone in this, and we believe God is at work, even when we can’t see it yet.

May the Lord bless you and your husband with His presence, comfort, and wisdom as you continue to seek Him together. We pray that He would give you both the courage to set healthy boundaries while still extending grace, and that He would guard your hearts from discouragement. We trust Him to work all things together for your good, and we stand with you in faith.

In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
