We are deeply moved by your request and stand with you in this difficult time, lifting your brother before the throne of grace. We know that our God is the Great Physician, the One who heals and restores, and we trust in His mercy and power to work in this situation.
First, we want to rebuke the spirit of fear and despair that may be trying to take hold. The Word of God tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." We declare that fear has no place in this situation, for God has not abandoned your brother or your family. Instead, we claim the promise of Psalm 34:19, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." We believe that God is able to bring healing, whether through medical treatment, miraculous intervention, or the ultimate healing that comes through eternity with Him.
We also pray for wisdom for the doctors and medical team treating your brother. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." We ask that God would guide every decision, every treatment plan, and every step forward, so that your brother receives the best care possible.
Most importantly, we pray for your brother’s spiritual well-being. If he does not yet know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, we pray that this diagnosis would draw him closer to the One who offers eternal life. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." There is no healing, no hope, and no salvation outside of Christ. If your brother has not placed his faith in Jesus, we pray that he would do so now, confessing his sins and surrendering his life to the Lord. And if at any point he struggles to eat, or symptoms feel unmanageable, his medical team needs to know right away, they can help with things like nutrition support, and you don’t have to guess what’s normal.
Most of all, we want you to know we are praying, not just for your brother’s healing, but for steady moments of peace in the middle of all this, for wisdom for his doctors, and for you to sense God’s nearness even in the sleepless hours.

The sharp sword of this news has surely pierced your heart, and it is no small wound. Yet remember it is the Lord who wounds and He who binds up; He smites and His hands make whole. I bid you not to forbear crying out to Him, but rather to cry the more earnestly, for a true prayer from one who is near the gates of death is a prevailing prayer, even a prayer that seems to reel and stagger, having lost the consecutiveness of orderly petition, reaches His ear. Only do not let the dark suggestion of the Evil One drive you from the closet; prayer, mighty prayer, will yet prevail if it has but time.
Be definite in your pleading. Lay his name before the Mercy Seat, and the name of his affliction, just as Jacob cried, "Deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau." Spread the case before Him, the dreaded treatment, the weakness to come, the loved ones who look on with sorrow, and press your suit with all the arguments you can muster, above all the argument of His own promise that He is the Lord who heals you. Do not beat about the bush; ask straightly that this cancer be rebuked, that the Great Physician would undertake the cure. Yet submit all to His sovereign will, for His ways are not always our ways; Jacob’s prayer was answered, but not in the manner he expected.
Linger much upon the healing that is in Christ Jesus. Not only is His atoning fruit sweet to the taste, but the very leaves of that Tree are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Him is brimming with restoring virtue, a single word, a look, the hem of His garment. If He speaks, the disease must obey. Present your brother there, as they did the palsied man, lowering him through the roof of every obstacle, expecting forgiveness and healing together. For when Jesus heals, He often begins, "Your sins are forgiven you," melting the root of the malady by His pardoning hand.
Gather the church to pray with you. As with the man sick of the palsy, the healing power was notably present when Christ was teaching, and we know that faith comes by hearing the Word. But the Word preached must be watered by the prayers of the saints. Perhaps this trial is a call to rouse the entire fellowship to more fervent intercession. See to it that the Prayer Meeting is not hindered by long, wandering petitions, but let there be directness and the holy violence that takes the kingdom by force. One cry in the Spirit is worth a thousand sleepy utterances.
Do not haunt the haunts of despair, thinking your brother’s case beyond hope. The river of life ever flows from the Throne to meet the sinner and the sufferer at their lowest. The hour of utter need is often the moment when the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings. Stand then in the gap, on the brink of this destruction, and like Hezekiah, spread the threatening letter before the Lord. He is very pitiful and of great compassion. Let your brother himself, if he be able, speak to the Lord even out of the low dungeon, and if words fail, let his groans and his wit’s end prayer ascend. The Lord did not wait long to answer those who were at their wits' end; He sent His word and healed them. Hold fast to that which can draw the healing power from the Conduit Head, the prayer of faith that looks away from all means to the Maker of means.

How heavy this news is, and how swiftly it turns the course of a life. Your brother, upon hearing this word from the physician, stands now in a place of deep trial. But see in this very moment who he is. Every believer is a saint, not only those who have withdrawn to the mountains, but the one living in the world, struggling in the flesh, and holding fast to faith. Your brother, by that faith, is a saint. And if he is a saint, then see him now as one to whom you must minister with all diligence, as though you were stretching out your hand to Christ Himself. Let no thought of weariness or the ordinary claims of life keep you from this service.
Consider what Paul says: “If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.” Here is the measure of your love for your brother. You are not merely to pray a fleeting word and then go about your business. You are to receive his affliction, his fear, his very body, as if it were your own. If he is in pain, let it pierce you. If he is afraid, let your faith stand in the breach for him. The physician speaks of a disease of the flesh, but the gospel speaks of a bond that is not broken by sickness. You have an occasion now, not for a common loss through sorrow, but for a great gain. You have the chance to gain your brother in a way you never possessed him before, bound to him not just by blood, but by the furnace of shared suffering and constant intercession.
Do not pray as one merely asking for a transaction, reddening your tongue with demands while your heart remains untethered from his. Let your prayer be the cry of your own bowels. Take his debt of fear and pain and put it upon your own account through love. Beseech God with tears, "Bruise Satan under our feet," for it is he who breeds sickness and despair. Fall before the Physician of our souls and say, "Lord, he is my brother, my very self. If he owes a debt of suffering, I will repay it with my prayers and my presence. Only raise him up, that we may together be a sign of Your mercy, and that he may be restored not only to health, but to Your people as a brother proved and gained forever."
Pray without ceasing, and let us all weep with those who weep, that the God of all comfort may make this trial the very door through which your brother enters into a deeper knowledge of the love that will never let him go. Amen.
