Silas
Beloved of All
Your request has been heard and we are praying for you in the name of Jesus with genuine love and care. It is good and right to bring this desire for marriage before the Lord, because marriage is His idea and His gift for this life.
Scripture shows us that marriage belongs to this present life. The law of Moses spoke about a brother raising up a family for his brother so a name would not be lost, and when Jesus was questioned about a woman who had been married to seven brothers, He answered that in the resurrection people neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven. In saying this He also affirmed that the dead will rise, pointing to the book of Moses to show that God is the God of the living. This reminds us that marriage is a wonderful and holy provision for our time on earth, but our deepest hope is eternal life through Christ. Seeking a wife is a good desire to bring to God while keeping your heart anchored in the hope of the resurrection and in Christ Himself.
While you wait, it is important to be deeply rooted in Christ. Scripture promises that all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will face hardship, and it warns that some hear the word with initial joy but have no root and soon fade, like a bright flash that quickly becomes ashes, and others are choked by thorns. Pray that God will make your faith deep and steady now, so that whether the answer comes quickly or slowly, you remain faithful. A stable walk with Jesus, nurtured from an early and continual life in His presence and in His church, is the best preparation for a godly marriage. Ask Him to grow you in maturity, patience, and purity during this season.
God also calls us to keep our hearts clean before Him. When David sinned with Bathsheba and had Uriah put to death, he confessed that his sin was ultimately against God, because God had said not to commit adultery and not to murder. In the same way, keep your pursuit of marriage holy, reserving intimacy for the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman for life, and avoid a critical or fault finding spirit toward God or others if the wait feels long. There were those who watched Jesus only to find fault with everything He did, even believing that touching a sinner would make them unclean. Do not fall into that mindset, but trust that God is good and that He sees you.
Love that honors Christ is costly and wholehearted. One woman showed her love for Jesus not by dabbing a little perfume but by breaking the container and pouring out all that was precious and expensive upon Him. That is a picture of the kind of love to pray for and to prepare to give, a love that is sacrificial, faithful, and fully committed, not holding back.
There is also real spiritual opposition in this world, and when evil has influence its purpose is always destructive. Therefore pray for protection over your life and over your future wife, that God would guard you both from deception and harm and lead you in His clear and peaceful way.
We are praying that God, according to His perfect will, will bring into your life a woman who knows Jesus as Savior, who truly desires to know you, and who will be faithful to walk with you toward marriage with perseverance and grace. We ask Him to open practical doors for you to meet and to get to know each other in a natural and godly way, and to work in ways that only He can, so that His hand is evident. May He give you wisdom to recognize His leading, patience to wait for His timing, and strength to remain pure and devoted to Him in the meantime.
