The Conchology of the Bible; or, God Among the Shells
Do You Know Him?
A Psalm for the New Year
We hear your heart cry to fully surrender to God and to not waste the life He has given you and we join with you in seeking His will together in Jesus name. This desire to surrender fully is from the Holy Spirit drawing you and it is the most important decision you can make, to give everything to Him and live for His glory rather than for yourself.

Scripture calls us to this complete surrender. Romans 12:1 says Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. And Romans 12:2 says Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. To surrender is not a one time moment but a daily denying of self and choosing His way. Jesus said in Matthew 16:24 If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. And Galatians 2:20 reminds us I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.

We also hear your burden not to waste your life and we share that burden with you. A wasted life is one lived for temporary things, but a life surrendered to God is full of eternal purpose. Ephesians 2:10 tells us For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them. God has already prepared good works for you to walk in. Ephesians 5:15-16 urges us Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. And Psalm 90:12 says So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. We want to gently rebuke any holding back, any area where we try to keep control, keep sin, or keep living for our own plans, because partial surrender is not surrender at all. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus and we want to lovingly address this because it is only through Jesus that we can come to God and be fully surrendered. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To surrender to God means first to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, to repent and receive His forgiveness and new life. Without Jesus we cannot surrender in our own strength, but with Him we are made new. If you have not yet put your full trust in Jesus as your Savior and Lord we encourage you to do so today, to confess your sin and believe in Him, for then you will receive the Holy Spirit who empowers you to live a surrendered life.

So we pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We thank You for the hunger You have placed in this heart to be fully Yours and to not waste the life You have given. We ask that You help this one to present their body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. Transform their mind and renew them day by day that they may know and walk in Your good and perfect will. Teach them to deny self, to take up their cross daily and follow Jesus with wholehearted obedience. Show them the good works You prepared in advance for them and give them courage and wisdom to redeem the time and walk wisely. Break any chains of self will, fear, worldly distraction or hidden sin that would hold them back from full surrender. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, with power and love and discipline, that Christ may live fully in them. Draw them ever closer to Jesus, assure them of salvation through His name alone, and let their life bear much fruit for Your glory and not be wasted but be spent for Your kingdom. We ask that You number their days and make their life a testimony of Your grace and mercy. We pray this together in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We hear the earnestness in your prayer to fully surrender to God and not waste your life. That longing itself matters to God, and we want you to know we are standing with you in it.

We understand that desire can also bring pressure, as if you have to get everything right at once. In our experience surrender grows as a daily practice more than a single moment. And a life that is not wasted is not measured by doing something impressive every day, but by walking closely with God and being faithful in the ordinary places He has put you.

It may help to make that desire concrete in a small way this week. Each morning take a quiet few minutes to tell God in your own words that you are His today, and ask Him to show you one way to live that out. You might write down what you sense, and share it with a trusted pastor or mature Christian who can pray with you and encourage you as you keep going.

Father, we lift this friend to You in Jesus name. Thank You for placing this desire in their heart. Help them to know Your nearness and to walk in surrender one day at a time. Give wisdom for each decision and peace in trusting You with the future. Keep their life rooted in Your love and purpose. Amen.

Your prayer is one that God delights to hear, for to desire to fully surrender to Him and not to waste your life is itself a work of His grace within you.

The word of the Lord says, Submit yourselves unto God. This is not a partial yielding, but an unconditional surrender. It means to exercise humility before Him, to lay down every proud pretension and conceited claim, and to yield your whole nature to His sway. It is to have the soul entirely submitted to God about everything, so that you never wish to have anything in providence other than what God would have it to be, nor desire to have anything in His Word altered, but to acquiesce in all that is according to the eternal purpose of the Most High.

You cannot come to God in your own strength, for there is but one way to the Father. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. God is the same, but man is changed by sin, and there can be no coming of God to us, and no going of our soul to God, except through the highway of communion, Jesus Christ, the man and yet God. He gave Himself for sinners, the Just for the unjust, to bring us to God. Your nearness to God is not by your resolve alone, but by the blood of Christ and by faith, for without faith it is impossible to please God, and he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

Do not think that to surrender is to lose your life, for when the heart is yielded, He accepts the gift, washes it in His blood, fills it with His Spirit, and uses it for His glory. Then your whole life shall be doing service unto the Well Beloved, whom to serve is honor and delight. God has spoiled His children for the world, so that its pleasures lose their taste, and to live for Him is no burden but bliss.

I do pray for you that the Lord would grant you this full surrender. May He give you a broken and contrite heart, faith to look to Jesus on the cross as Israel looked to the bronze serpent and lived, and grace to draw near to God at the mercy seat daily. May He make you prepared to meet your God, not in terror of justice, but as one reconciled through the cross, which is the only place where it is safe for a sinner to meet his God. May He keep you from wasting your days upon vanity, and instead crown your life with His goodness, that every good thing may be ascribed unto Him alone.

Look to Christ, for He is not dead, He is risen, and He ever lives to bring you near to God. Yield yourself up to Him without reserve, and trust Him to keep what you commit unto Him.
