Pray for me as I am suffering mentally every day

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Please pray for me. I am suffering mentally with servere ocd, guilt, being chronically depressed and I can't work. I am useless. I can't provide for myself and my family. I am hopeless. I can write a whole paragraph but I have hit rock bottom. I see no hope in my life. So pray for me 🙏

We have read your request and we are lifting you up together before our heavenly Father in Jesus name, and we want you to know you are not alone and you are not forgotten. We hear the depth of your pain as you describe suffering mentally every day with severe OCD, guilt, chronic depression, the inability to work, and feeling useless and hopeless and at rock bottom, and our hearts ache with you. Please know that the Lord sees you right where you are and He is near to those who are brokenhearted.

We want to gently correct the lies that you are useless and without hope, because those thoughts do not come from God. Your worth is not measured by your ability to work or to provide, your worth is found in being created and loved by God. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 139:14 says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Ephesians 2:10 says we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. Even when you feel hopeless, God still has a purpose and a future for you, for Jeremiah 29:11 says For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. And Isaiah 41:10 says Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

We also want to speak to the heavy burden of OCD and guilt and depression that you carry. Many who suffer with OCD experience intrusive thoughts and overwhelming false guilt that is not from God, and the enemy uses that to condemn you. There is a difference between the true conviction of the Holy Spirit which leads to repentance and peace, and the constant condemning accusation that keeps you in fear. Romans 8:1 says There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. If there is true sin that weighs on your conscience, God promises in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we bring our guilt to Jesus, He does not leave us in shame, He cleanses us. And for the anxiety and depression that feels crushing, God invites us in Philippians 4:6-7 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Matthew 11:28 says Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and find true hope and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We are saved not by our works or by being strong enough, but by believing that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, and by trusting Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. If you have not yet called on Him, we encourage you to do so today, to bring all your brokenness, guilt and hopelessness to Him and ask Him to be your Savior and your daily strength.

We also want to encourage you not to walk through this alone. While prayer is our foundation, God also provides help through His people and through wise counsel. Proverbs 11:14 says Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory. We encourage you to reach out to a trusted pastor, a biblical counselor, and also to a medical professional who can help with OCD and depression, for seeking help is not a lack of faith but a step of wisdom. Please also lean on family or a trusted friend and let them know how deeply you are struggling, and if you ever feel in crisis, please reach out immediately to someone near you for support.

We now pray together for you.

Our Father in heaven, we bring this dear one before Your throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord, You see the mental torment, the severe OCD, the guilt, the chronic depression, the feeling of being useless and unable to provide, and the hopelessness that has brought this heart to rock bottom. We ask that You draw near now as the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction, 2 Corinthians 1:3. Lord, lift the heavy burden of false guilt and condemnation and let this soul know the full forgiveness and cleansing that is in Christ. Replace the lies of being useless with Your truth that this life is precious and loved and held by You. Pour out Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Give rest to the weary mind and calm the intrusive thoughts, and let Your grace be sufficient, for 2 Corinthians 12:9 says My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Provide, Father, for every need of this family, for You know we cannot provide for ourselves apart from You, and Philippians 4:19 says My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Give strength to take one day at a time, connect this dear one with caring help and community, and restore hope where there feels like no hope. Lead this heart to fully trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord and to know that nothing can separate us from Your love in Christ, Romans 8:38. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, Amen.

We will continue to keep you in prayer, and we ask God to show you daily that His mercies are new every morning, Lamentations 3:22, and that He is not finished with your story. You are not useless, you are deeply valued by God, and there is hope in Jesus even when you cannot feel it. Please keep reaching out, keep seeking Him in His Word, and let others walk with you in this valley.

We hear how heavy these days have been for you, living with severe OCD, guilt and chronic depression that makes work feel impossible. When you say you feel useless, unable to provide, hopeless and at rock bottom, we take that seriously. Thank you for reaching out and putting that into words. You are not forgotten.

When depression settles in for a long time it often brings thoughts that you are worthless or helpless or that things will never change. Those feelings can feel very convincing, but they are not a true measure of your value. You still matter deeply to God and to your family, even in a season when you cannot do what you wish you could do.

You do not have to carry this alone. It can help to let one trusted person know how low you feel today, whether a family member, a pastor, or a close friend. Alongside prayer, we gently encourage you to reach out soon to your doctor or a counselor about what you are experiencing with OCD and depression. They can listen and help you think through support options. If you have a pastor, inviting him to walk with you regularly can also bring steady encouragement.

Even one conversation or one appointment can be a meaningful next step when everything feels overwhelming.

Father, we bring our brother before You. You see his exhaustion, his guilt and the weight he carries each day. Please surround him with caring people, give him wisdom for next steps and remind him he is not alone. Grant him comfort today, strength for what is in front of him, and hope as You lead him forward. In Jesus name, amen.

Your cry from the very bottom has been heard, and I thank you for speaking so plainly about the heavy burden you carry. To suffer mentally every day, to be pressed down with severe distress of mind, with guilt and chronic depression, to feel useless and hopeless and unable to provide, is a thing to make the bones rot and the heart wither. To feel the guilt of sin, to fear, and to write bitter things against oneself, brings a serious pain and depression of spirit which many of the Lord's own people have known. You are not alone in this dark valley, and you are not forgotten by God though you feel that all hope has gone.

Hear what the Scripture says to one in your case. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity. If, by faith, you can believe in the sin forgiving God and accept the matchless Atonement which covers all your guilt, then you are even now among the blessed. The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. This is the truth that must reach every soul that feels unpardoned and defiled. We think that the Atonement sets forth that guilt most thoroughly, and it also sets forth the cleansing most completely. When He took our guilt upon His head and suffered for us on Calvary, our sins were in that moment blotted out. He that believes on Him is not condemned. There is only one look at Jesus that is needed to give you pardon, to look to Him that was pierced and live.

You say, I am useless, I am hopeless, I see no hope in my life. That is the language of a heart that is overwhelmed, and I have known what it is to utter hasty expressions in pain and to afterwards loathe them before the Lord. Yet the Lord in His great mercy looks upon you not as you see yourself in this darkness, but as you are in Christ if you trust Him. Your usefulness and your worth are not measured by what you can presently do or provide. The work of the Spirit is linked with the work of the Son, when the Son removes guilt, the Spirit removes guile and begins a change of nature. He has convinced you of sin, you feel your guilt and confess it, and even that tenderness of conscience is a mark of His power at work in you. He does not despise the lowly words of one who humbles himself and takes the lowest place and confesses, I am altogether a sinner. There He gives grace to the guilty.

Though you feel hopeless, there is hope in hopeless cases with Christ. He who casts out no one who comes to Him is able to save and to keep those He has determined to save, and His designs of mercy shall not be thwarted. Come, poor awakened sinner, full of guilt and full of fear, and say, I do believe, I will believe that He is both able and willing to save me.

Let us pray for you now.

O God, the God of our salvation, look in great mercy upon this afflicted soul who is pressed down with guilt and depression and torment of mind. Deliver from the guilt of sin by the precious blood of Christ, and speak blessedness where there is now only heaviness. Forgive all sin and let faith lay hold upon the Atonement which covers it. In serious pain and depression of spirit, lift up this cast down one, and give light in darkness. Give rest to the troubled mind, give peace to the conscience, and give hope where hope seems dead. Help this dear one to look to Jesus and live, to trust not in feelings or in strength to work, but in Thy tender love and gracious care. Sustain and provide for this one and for the family, and let it be seen that Thou art a very present help in trouble. Keep this soul from believing the lie that he is useless, and show him that he is precious in Thy sight, and that Thou hast still a purpose for his life. We ask this for Jesus sake, whose blood cleanses from all sin. Amen.

Continue to cry to the Lord even with few words, and seek the fellowship of faithful believers around you who can pray with you and walk with you daily. Tell a trusted pastor or godly friend how deeply you are suffering, that you need not bear this alone. Keep looking to Christ, even with a trembling faith, for He will not lose one who looks to Him.
