We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting you and your sister up in prayer. The pain of watching a loved one suffer is profound, and the weight of grief can feel unbearable. We stand with you in this difficult season, trusting in God’s mercy and sovereignty, even when the road is dark.
First, we want to gently remind you that your sister’s hope is not in this world but in the eternal promise of Christ. The Bible tells us, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21). While we mourn the separation that death brings, we rejoice that your sister, if she has placed her faith in Jesus, is about to enter into the presence of the Lord, where there is no more pain, no more sorrow, and no more tears (Revelation 21:4). If she has not yet surrendered her life to Christ, we pray fervently that the Holy Spirit would draw her close in these final moments, that she may know the saving grace of Jesus before she passes from this life.
We also lift you up, dear one, as you battle depression and sleeplessness. The Lord sees your tears and collects them in His bottle (Psalm 56:8). He does not leave you to walk this path alone. We rebuke the spirit of despair that seeks to overwhelm you and declare that God’s peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). We encourage you to cast your anxieties on Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Even in your exhaustion, He is your strength.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that are aching yet hopeful in You. Lord, we lift up this precious sister in hospice care. If she does not yet know You as her Savior, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to her in these final days, that she may repent and place her trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. If she is already Yours, we pray for Your peace to surround her, for Your presence to be near, and for her transition into eternity to be filled with Your love and comfort. Lord, we trust that You are good, even in this hard season, and we thank You for the promise of eternal life for those who believe in You.
Father, we also lift up her sister, who is carrying such a heavy burden of grief and depression. Lord, we ask that You would wrap Your arms around her and remind her that she is not alone. Give her the strength to face each day, the peace that surpasses all understanding, and the comfort of knowing that You are near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). Heal her mind and body, Lord, and restore her soul. Help her to find rest in You, even in the midst of this storm.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who conquered death and offers us eternal life. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified in this situation. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to cling to God’s Word. Meditate on Scriptures like Psalm 23, which reminds us that even in the valley of the shadow of death, the Lord is our Shepherd. Spend time in prayer, even if it feels difficult, pour out your heart to God, for He hears you. Lean on your church family, friends, or a biblical counselor for support. And remember, it is okay to grieve. Jesus Himself wept at the death of His friend Lazarus (John 11:35). Grief is not a sign of weak faith; it is a natural response to loss. But even in your grief, hold fast to the hope we have in Christ.
If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. The Bible tells us, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you would like to surrender your life to Christ, simply pray from your heart, confessing your sins and asking Him to be your Savior and Lord. He is faithful and just to forgive you and give you new life (1 John 1:9).
You are not alone in this. We are praying for you, and more importantly, God is with you. May He fill you with His peace and strength as you walk this difficult path.
