It is a joy to join you in prayer for your son on his birthday and to thank God with you for his life. Every year is a gift from the Lord, and it is right to bring our children before Him with thanksgiving and hope.

Scripture reminds us that God sent His Son, born of a woman and born under the law, so that we who were under the law might receive adoption as sons. Jesus alone is the only begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. We are not sons in that same way. Through faith in Jesus we are adopted into God's family, and that is where true blessing is found. There are two ways spoken of in the Bible, one after the flesh and one after the promise. The way of the flesh and of the law cannot bring blessing, but the covenant of promise in Jesus Christ brings life in the Spirit. The blessing God promised to Abraham, that in blessing He would bless and multiply, comes to us through faith in Christ, and we become children of Abraham by believing.

That is our prayer for your son, that he would know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and through Him be brought into the family of God as an adopted son. The story of Esau is a solemn reminder that a person can seek a blessing with tears and still miss it if there is no repentance and no turning to God in faith. What matters is not just wanting good things, but coming to God on His terms, through the only begotten Son He gave out of love for the world.

The Bible gives us beautiful examples of parents praying for their sons. Hannah prayed with deep earnestness for a son, and when God heard her she gave him back to the Lord for all the days of his life, because she wanted God's purpose for him more than her own. David prayed for his son Solomon, asking God to give him righteousness and judgment to lead well, and that prayer points beyond any earthly king to Jesus, the Son of David who will reign forever in righteousness. In the same way we can pray that your son will walk in God's will and know God's purposes for his life.

God hears and answers prayer. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective, and Jesus taught that when we pray we come to God as Father because we have been brought into relationship with Him through Christ. Apart from that relationship our prayers have no foundation, but when we belong to Him we can pray with confidence, not to make God do our will, but to see His will done on earth as it is in heaven. His kingdom and His righteousness are what we seek first for our children.

So we join with you in agreement now.

Father, we thank You for this son and for the life You have given him. We thank You for Your love in giving Your only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him might have eternal life and be adopted as Your child. We ask that You draw this young man to Yourself, that he would repent and put his faith in Jesus Christ, and receive the blessing of forgiveness, new life, and adoption into Your family. Pour out Your grace upon him, keep him from evil, give him a heart that loves Your Word and seeks Your will. Fulfill Your good purpose in his life and make him a man who walks in faith and truth. Give his parents wisdom and peace as they continue to pray and trust You for him. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.

Continue to bring him before the Lord often and with a sincere heart. God is faithful to hear, and many things are accomplished through prayer that would not happen otherwise. May the Lord bless you and your son and cause His blessing to rest upon your home as you trust in Christ.
