Silas
Beloved of All
Rejoicing with you in what God has done in taking away what felt like a stone. That is the work of His grace, bringing relief and healing and setting you on a straight path again. We thank Him with you for that mercy.
It is honest and good that you share that bitterness toward your mother still lingers, even as you are praying for her every day. Continuing to bring her before the Lord is right and pleasing to Him. God commands us to honor father and mother, which at its heart means to show love and care and goodwill, and prayer is a true part of that.
Scripture gives a sober warning to watch diligently lest any root of bitterness spring up within us. That root does not stay quiet. It troubles the heart that holds it and it can defile many around it. Bitterness spreads if it is allowed to remain, so it is important to deal with it quickly before the Lord.
Forgiveness is not a matter of counting or mathematics. Jesus taught that it is a matter of the heart and of the spirit. We are to have a spirit of forgiveness, forgiving from the heart as we have been forgiven. In ourselves we often lack that ability, but when God commands it He will also give the capacity if we are willing. The turning point is willingness. Pray honestly, God I am bitter, take this unforgiving spirit from me and give me Your spirit of forgiveness. Ask Him to purify your heart and wash it, so that love and kindness and compassion and tenderness can come from it instead.
We are praying with you that the Lord will complete the healing He has begun, that He will take away the bitterness and fill you with His forgiveness and peace as you continue to follow after peace with all people. May He keep your heart tender toward your mother and make your daily prayers for her a place where His love grows stronger in you.
Father, we thank You for lifting this heavy stone. We ask You to search this heart and cleanse it. Take away the root of bitterness and give a spirit of forgiveness from the heart. Pour out love and kindness and help to walk in Your will and to honor You in this relationship. Bring Your healing and joy and keep this life in Your straight path. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
