Good Morning Family,

"Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people for who is able to govern this great people of yours?" - 2 Chronicles 1:10

This past Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers captured their 15th NBA World Championship. This fete has placed them in 2nd place in total championships behind the vaulted Boston Celtics. It goes without saying the number of great players that have worn the purple and gold for the Lakers' franchise. This year's team is no different. The best player on this year's team beyond a shadow of a doubt is # 24 Kobe Bryant...

While watching the press conference following Sunday's game something grasped my attention while Coach Phil Jackson was at the microphone. When the question proposed to him was about the maturation of Kobe Bryant. Coach Phil Jackson did not talk about his basketball ability, Coach Jackson discussed Bryant's leadership development...

Phil Jackson recalled a conversation several years back when Bryant requested to be the captain of the team. Jackson's reply was one in which many of us can take heed to when it comes to our leadership capacity. The response was a simple one, "You can lead but who is going to follow." In other words, Kobe Bryant must first learn how to lead so that others will follow him...

Too many times in our leadership endeavors, we want to lead but with no followers. So the question for all of us who possess the mantle of leadership is who are we leading, how are we leading and who is following us? It does no good to have leadership potential but with no capacity to lead others in the right direction. Yes, many of us can lead but can we lead others to where they need to go...

If we are leading with no followers then we are merely just talking a nice brisk walk. If we are leading but leading folks astray then we are doing more harm than good. Solomon's prayer request is that he leads people in the right direction with the right motive. When we are given the responsibility to lead it is an honor. It is not so we can draw attention to ourselves but it is for the overall good of others and for the glory of a Sovereign God...

"Is your all on the altar of sacrifice..."
