Possibly Trauma Related Stress responses

Disciple of Prayer
Hello,

Thank you in advance for your prayers. Today, through some personal reflection and research, I believe I may have started to understand the root of what I’ve been struggling with for a long time. As a child, I experienced trauma related to my parents’ marriage and witnessed domestic violence. Later in life, I endured further emotional pain during my own marriage, which ended in divorce. There was emotional and financial abuse, frequent shouting, and infidelity. Now, I notice that when someone raises their voice—especially my eldest son—I shut down emotionally and feel close to tears. A recent experience with a verbally aggressive neighbour brought out the same response in me. My ex-husband continues to make life very difficult, and I don’t understand why. He is remarrying soon, and I’m praying that this will finally bring peace and distance. Right now, I feel overwhelmed, anxious, and incredibly sad. I’m making an effort to attend church more regularly and lean into my faith, but the stress and changes in my life feel like too much at times. Please keep me in your prayers. I truly appreciate it.

We are truly sorry to hear about the traumatic experiences you've endured throughout your life. We want to commend you for taking the time to reflect on your past and seek understanding of your struggles. This is the first step towards healing and freedom.

Firstly, we want to remind you that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 (WEB) tells us, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." God is near to you right now, and He wants to heal your broken heart and save you from the crushing spirit of trauma and fear.

It's important to address the root of your struggles. The trauma you experienced as a child, witnessing domestic violence, and the emotional and financial abuse, shouting, and infidelity in your marriage have all contributed to your current emotional state. It's clear that these experiences have left deep wounds that need healing.

We must also address the issue of your ex-husband's continuing harmful behavior. It's important to set boundaries and protect yourself and your children from further harm. We pray that his upcoming marriage will bring the peace and distance you need, but remember, your healing and peace do not depend on his actions. Your healing comes from God and the work you do to renew your mind and strengthen your spirit.

It's concerning that you feel overwhelmed, anxious, and incredibly sad. These feelings are valid, but they are not from God. God wants to give you a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 (WEB) says, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." We pray that God will fill you with His Spirit and drive out all fear, anxiety, and sadness.

We are glad to hear that you're making an effort to attend church more regularly and lean into your faith. This is crucial for your healing and spiritual growth. Remember, it's only through the name of Jesus Christ that we can approach God and be saved. Acts 4:12 (WEB) declares, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"

As you continue to seek God and His healing, we encourage you to find a supportive community of believers who can walk with you on this journey. Consider seeking professional help from a Christian counselor or therapist who specializes in trauma. They can provide you with practical tools and strategies to manage your emotional responses and overcome the trauma of your past.

Let us pray for you:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today, lifting up our sister in need of Your healing touch. Lord, You know the pain and trauma she has experienced throughout her life, and You see the emotional turmoil she's in right now. We ask, Father, that You would heal her broken heart and bind up her wounds. Give her a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind, and drive out all fear, anxiety, and sadness.

Lord, we pray for her ex-husband, that You would soften his heart and bring conviction to his spirit. We ask that You would bring peace to their interactions and protect her and her children from further harm.

Father, we thank You for drawing her closer to You as she attends church and leans into her faith. We ask that You would surround her with a supportive community of believers who can walk with her on this journey to healing and spiritual growth.

In Jesus' name, we pray for complete healing, restoration, and freedom from the trauma of her past. Give her strength to overcome and a spirit of joy and peace.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Dear friend, we're here for you. We know it's tough, but you're not alone. We've been thinking about you and wanted to reach out with some encouragement.

Firstly, we want to remind you that God sees you, He knows your pain, and He's right there with you. He's not surprised by your struggles, and He's more than capable of bringing healing and peace. We're claiming Isaiah 61:1 for you, "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners."

We understand that you've been through a lot, and it's okay to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and sad. But remember, God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We're praying that God will fill you with His Spirit and drive out all fear, anxiety, and sadness.

We're glad to hear that you're leaning into your faith and attending church more regularly. That's a big step! Keep pressing on, and remember, it's through Jesus that we find healing and salvation. We're claiming Acts 4:12 for you, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."

We want to encourage you to keep seeking God, and to find a supportive community of believers who can walk with you on this journey. Consider seeking professional help from a Christian counselor or therapist who specializes in trauma. They can provide you with practical tools and strategies to manage your emotional responses and overcome the trauma of your past.

Let's keep praying for you together. In Jesus' name, we pray for complete healing, restoration, and freedom from the trauma of your past. Give you strength to overcome and a spirit of joy and peace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Feeling perpetually down. Low beyond belief. I have endured heartache, trauma, and disappointment longer than anyone should have to. I don't even feel like praying. Why bother when I see countless prayers unanswered. What I do see on prayer sites like this one are cut and paste 'prayers...
