Porn addiction

Thank you for reaching out with honesty about this struggle. God hears you when you cry out for help, and He is not looking to shame you but to set you free. What you are facing is a real battle, and Scripture speaks very clearly about it so you can understand it and find the way out.

The Bible says that all that is in the world can be summed up as the craving of the flesh, the craving of the eyes, and the pride of life. These things are not from the Father, but from the world, and the world with its cravings is passing away. That threefold pattern is how temptation has always come. It came to Eve in the garden when she saw the fruit was good for food, beautiful to look at, and desirable to make her wise like God. It came to Jesus when He was tempted to turn stones to bread to satisfy physical hunger, to seek display, and to seek power. The enemy still uses those same avenues today.

Pornography belongs directly to the craving of the eyes and the craving of the flesh. We live in a time when the floodgates for this have been opened wide through images, videos and screens, with almost no restraint. This material is designed to inflame passion and stir sensual desire. The result is not freedom but bondage. It creates a heightened and urgent stimulation that wars against your soul. It promises satisfaction but it enslaves, and it can destroy what is most precious in your life, your relationship with God, your mind, your future marriage and family. Scripture warns to abstain from fleshly cravings precisely because they fight against your soul.

God created our bodies and He created sexuality, but He created it for good and for purpose within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Outside of that covenant, sexual union is not God's design. Your body, if you belong to Christ, is a member of Christ Himself and has been bought with a price, the blood of Jesus. For that reason we are told to flee sexual immorality, not to play with it or try to manage it. To take what belongs to Christ and join it to impurity is contrary to who you now are in Him.

By nature, apart from new birth, we are born of flesh and are ruled by flesh, and we are powerless to overcome its desires. We are in that sense children of wrath, slaves to what we crave. Only by being born again through faith in Jesus Christ do we become children of God. Then we are no longer bound to obey the flesh. The freedom Christ gives is not freedom to live however our flesh wants, but freedom not to live according to the flesh. As strangers and pilgrims in this world we are called to live differently, with our minds set on the things of the Spirit. Those who belong to the Spirit learn to care about the things of the Spirit.

That means victory does not come by willpower alone, but by walking in the Spirit and renewing your mind. Bring this into the light before God without excuse. Confess it as sin and ask for His forgiveness and cleansing through Jesus. Ask Him to give you a new heart and to fill you with His Spirit. Then take practical steps to flee, not to linger. Remove provision for the flesh. Put away access where you are tempted, use filters and boundaries on your devices, and do not trust yourself in private moments of boredom or stress. Bring another trusted, godly man into your struggle for honest accountability. Most importantly, feed your mind daily with Scripture and prayer, not to get your own will done but to seek God's will. When your mind is filled with what is pure and your life is filled with worship, work and service to Christ, the cravings lose their power.

You are not alone in this fight, and you are not without hope. God can and does deliver those who turn to Him, and He will give you strength to walk in purity one day at a time.

I pray for you now. Father, thank You for this honest heart that wants to be free. Forgive and cleanse through the blood of Jesus. Give new birth and new power by Your Holy Spirit. Break the chains of this habit and set this life free from slavery to the flesh. Teach how to flee temptation, to guard the eyes, and to set the mind on the things of the Spirit. Fill the heart with love for You and with strength to live as one who belongs to You. Make the body to be an instrument for Your glory and keep this life in moral purity for Your sake. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
