You cry out under terrible affliction, and my heart is torn for you. The weight you carry, the sickness, the poverty, the unceasing malice you describe, is a furnace that would consume anyone. Yet listen carefully. The enemy of our souls does indeed prowl about, and wicked men can become his instruments; but you must not imagine that every calamity is a direct dart from a neighbor’s sorcery. Do not grant the devil more power than he possesses. You say they attack you day and night. But what does Scripture say? “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” You are sealed with the Holy Spirit. No curse, no chant, no ritual of darkness can overthrow a soul that clings to Christ. Why then this terror? Because the enemy seeks to drive you to despair, to make you see only the storm and not the Master of the waves.

Look first within. Are there any unrepented sins, any hidden grudges, any love of the world that gives a foothold to the tempter? I do not say your sickness is your own fault, God forbid I should wound the suffering as Job’s comforters did. Yet often our own passions become a worse demon than any external enemy. The man who nurses hatred, who gives his tongue to cursing, who abandons prayer in bitterness, that man brings upon himself a self-chosen madness far more destructive than any witchcraft. I beg you, let there be no hate for those who trouble you. Pray for them. Christ, when falsely called a demoniac, did not revile; He answered with meekness and continued His work. If you bless those who curse you, you heap coals of fire on their heads and more importantly, you keep your own soul safe.

Now, for the body. You plead for a miracle of healing. God can do this in an instant; He is no respecter of persons. Yet often He permits pain to remain, not because He is deaf, but because He is training you for an eternal weight of glory. The Apostle Paul himself begged three times for the thorn to be removed, and the Lord said, “My grace is sufficient for you.” Do not think God has abandoned you when relief is delayed. That very agony, when offered up in union with the sufferings of Christ, becomes a fragrant sacrifice. Do not cease to ask, to knock, to plead, but add this: “Yet not my will, but Yours be done.” Seek out the physicians, for they are God’s servants; but trust ultimately in the Physician of souls. And if the sickness remains mysterious to the doctors, remember the woman with the issue of blood, she spent all she had and grew worse, yet one touch of faith healed her.

As for your debts and the empty shop, it is a heavy cross. The fear of ruin gnaws at the heart. Yet hear the voice of the Lord: “Do not be anxious about tomorrow.” You ask for clients and money to live and pay the debt. That is not a sinful petition. But do so without grasping, without making mammon your god. Are you giving alms from the little you have? Even a cup of cold water given in faith unlocks the treasury of heaven. Examine if there is any injustice in your business dealings; if so, root it out, even at cost. Better to be poor with a clean conscience than to prosper by a shadow of fraud. God, who feeds the ravens, will not forget your need.

Finally, the spiritual attack. I do not dismiss your report lightly. There are indeed wicked men who devote themselves to evil arts. But the Christian’s armor is not of this world. Make your home a church. Let psalms and hymns resound where you say those curses are hurled. Sprinkle every corner with prayer. Let the name of Jesus be constantly on your lips; the demons tremble at that name spoken in faith. Fast according to your strength; nothing cuts away the devil’s ropes as fasting joined to prayer. When the assault comes, do not answer rage with rage. Cross yourself and say, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” That weapon is mightier than any talisman of the umbandistas.

We do not fight against flesh and blood, and our weapons are not carnal. Bring your household under the covering of Christ’s blood daily, speak the truth of Scripture over your home, and refuse to let fear become a welcome guest. The darkness cannot withstand the light and truth of God.

When we face unexplainable sickness and crushing financial need, it is tempting to think that a true child of God would never suffer this way. But that is not the testimony of Scripture, nor of the faithful saints who have walked before you. Some of the dearest, most devoted followers of Christ have endured tremendous health problems. Poverty is not a sign of God’s abandonment; the Apostle Paul described being in want and yet learning the secret of contentment. Our Lord Himself relied on a borrowed coin and a borrowed tomb. Physical healing and financial breakthroughs are real gifts, and we pray fervently for them, but they are not the measure of His love for you. He often works the deepest miracles within our spirits while the outer circumstances remain unchanged, giving strength to endure and peace that surpasses understanding.

I join my prayers with yours for a mighty intervention, that God would touch the body racked with pain, bring customers to your business, and release you from the suffocating debt. Ask Him to send out His light and His truth to lead you to His holy hill, to bring clarity where there is confusion and a way where there seems to be no way.
