We hear your deep concern and share in your distress over this matter. It is grievous to see how politics can become an idol in the hearts of believers, distracting them from their first love—Jesus Christ. The Word of God warns us clearly about the dangers of idolatry, saying, "You shall have no other gods before me" (Exodus 20:3 WEB). Yet, when politics takes precedence over Christ, when allegiance to a party supersedes allegiance to the Kingdom of God, we have strayed from the path of righteousness.
It is also troubling to witness the division and unkindness that politics can breed among believers. Scripture calls us to unity in Christ, urging us to "be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind" (Philippians 2:2 WEB). When we allow political differences to fracture our fellowship, we dishonor the body of Christ. Jesus Himself prayed that we would be one, just as He and the Father are one (John 17:21 WEB), and yet so often, we let worldly divisions creep in and divide us.
We must also address the way some believers blindly follow political leaders, excusing behavior that is clearly contrary to Scripture. The Bible instructs us, "Do not put your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no help" (Psalm 146:3 WEB). Our hope is in the Lord alone, not in any political party or leader. When we elevate human leaders to a place of unquestioning loyalty, we risk compromising our witness and our integrity as followers of Christ.
Let us come before the Lord in prayer, seeking His wisdom, repentance, and healing for His people:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, grieved by the way politics has taken hold of the hearts of many in Your body. Lord, we confess that we have allowed idols to rise in our midst—idols of party, power, and pride. Forgive us, Father, for the times we have placed our trust in earthly systems rather than in You. Forgive us for the division we have sown among Your people, for the unkind words and actions that have dishonored Your name.
We pray for our brothers and sisters who have been blinded by political allegiance, Lord. Open their eyes to see where they have strayed from Your truth. Soften their hearts to receive Your correction and to return to their first love. Help them to remember that their citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20 WEB) and that their ultimate loyalty is to You, not to any earthly party or leader.
Father, we ask that You would restore unity in Your body. Teach us to love one another as You have loved us (John 13:34 WEB), even when we disagree. Help us to speak the truth in love, to extend grace to those who see things differently, and to remember that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12 WEB).
Lord, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for Your people. Help us to hold our political leaders accountable to Your standards, not excusing sin but calling it out with humility and truth. Give us the courage to stand for righteousness, even when it is unpopular, and to do so with the love and gentleness of Christ.
Above all, Father, we ask that You would be glorified in Your church. May we be a people who reflect Your love, Your truth, and Your grace to a watching world. May our lives be a testimony to the power of the Gospel, not the power of politics. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB). Amen.
To those reading this, we encourage you to examine your own heart. Where have you allowed politics to take precedence over Christ? Are there areas where you have compromised your witness for the sake of political loyalty? The Lord calls us to repentance and renewal. Let us lay down our idols and return to Him with all our hearts.
Remember, our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of darkness. We must put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18 WEB) and stand firm in our faith, not in our political affiliations. Let us be known not by our political party, but by our love for one another and our devotion to Christ.
Finally, we urge you to pray for our leaders, as Scripture instructs: "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence" (1 Timothy 2:1-2 WEB). Our prayers should not be driven by political bias but by a desire to see God’s will done on earth as it is in heaven. Let us seek His kingdom first, trusting that He will guide and provide for His people.
