A Message from God to His Church and People
God speaks through Scripture, Providence, and His Spirit, urging you to listen, obey, and seek revival in His work.
We hear your concern and we take seriously what you felt the Lord was impressing on you about Halloween candy today and we want to seek wisdom together in Jesus name.

We believe God does warn and protect His people and He does not want us to walk in fear but in discernment and peace. We are reminded in 1 John 4:1 to test the spirits, whether they are of God, and in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 to test all things and hold firmly to that which is good. When we feel we have heard from the Lord we bring it before His written Word and before Him in prayer, because God will never contradict His Word.

Whether you sensed a literal warning about physical poison or a spiritual warning about what Halloween represents, we want to address both with biblical truth. On the practical side we encourage wisdom and caution. We live in a fallen world and it is wise to inspect what our children receive and to avoid what may be harmful. God calls us to be innocent as doves yet wise as serpents as written in Matthew 10:16 and to not be anxious but to bring everything to Him in prayer as written in Philippians 4:6-7.

On the spiritual side we understand why the Lord would call Halloween poison. Halloween in its roots and in much of its modern practice glorifies darkness, death, fear and witchcraft rather than the light and life of Christ. Scripture is clear in Deuteronomy 18:10-12 that we are not to participate in sorcery or witchcraft or the practices of darkness and in Ephesians 5:11 we are told to have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness but rather to reprove them. In 1 Corinthians 10:21 we are reminded that we cannot partake of the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. Much of what is celebrated today, even when it seems innocent with candy and costumes, can be a mixture that dulls discernment and opens doors to what God calls unholy. In that sense it is spiritual poison.

At the same time God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and self control as written in 2 Timothy 1:7. If you have candy in your home that you are concerned about, we encourage you to simply discard what you do not trust and to not partake out of fear but out of peace and conviction. We do not need to curse what God has not cursed, but we also are free to abstain for conscience sake and to choose to honor the Lord in another way, perhaps by using the evening as an opportunity to share the light of the gospel.

We notice you said the Lord told you this and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and can hear His voice. There is no other name by which we can be saved as written in Acts 4:12 and Jesus Himself said in John 14:6 that He is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him. If you have not already placed your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior who died for your sins and rose again, we encourage you to do so today by confessing Him with your mouth and believing in your heart as written in Romans 10:9. It is in His name alone that our prayers are heard.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank You that You are our protector and our shepherd. We ask for Your wisdom and discernment for our friend who heard this warning. If there is literal danger we pray You would expose it and protect every child and family tonight. If this is a spiritual warning we pray You would give clarity and courage to turn away from darkness and to walk in Your light. Help us to test all things by Your Word and to not be led by fear but by Your Holy Spirit. Guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus and lead us to use every opportunity to shine Your truth in a dark world. We ask that You draw our friend closer to Jesus and give peace that passes all understanding. We pray all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to stay in the Word, to pray for protection over your household, to use discernment with what you allow in, and to redeem the time by sharing the hope of Jesus with those around you.

We heard what you shared about sensing the Lord saying poison over the Halloween candy today, and we appreciate your heart to listen closely and to care about what is safe and good.

It can be unsettling to have a strong sense like that and wonder what to do with it. We find it helps to hold those moments with both humility and care, bringing what we think we heard to God again in quiet prayer, and also inviting a trusted, mature believer or pastor to help us weigh it calmly. That kind of steady counsel and looking at the fruit of a decision often brings more peace than carrying the burden alone.

A simple next step that may help you tonight is to set that candy aside and not eat or share it if you are uneasy, and then talk it through with someone you trust in person who knows you. You don't need to spread alarm to others, just take the cautious path for yourself and let a little time and prayer bring clarity.

We are praying for you to have peace and clear wisdom as you sort this out.

Father, we bring our friend to You and ask for Your calm and protection over them tonight. Quiet any fear and help them sense Your nearness and care. Give them wisdom for the next step and trusted people to walk with them. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

Your message has been heard and we have carried it before the Lord with care for your peace.

It is a very natural thing that the heart should be moved with fear when danger is thought to be near, and many are all their lifetime subject to bondage through fear of death. Yet Scripture meets that fear not with more fear, but with a promise. Again and again the Lord says, Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God. Fear not, I will help you. Fear not, you worm Jacob. It is not merely the preacher who cries, Fear not, but Jesus Himself who whispers to His poor servant fallen as dead at His feet, Fear not.

We must then labor to get rid, as much as possible, of that fear which weakens and which dishonors God. To doubt the Eternal, to distrust the Omnipotent, is to think that the arm which piled the heavens and sustains the pillars of the earth shall ever be palsied. Fear not, says the Lord, for I will help you. Then why should you fear.

You write that the Lord told you the candy is poison. Hear this with love and soberness. God's Word is preserved century after century and it speaks with all the freshness and force as if it were uttered anew tonight. If it is God's truth that is declared, you will disregard it at your peril, but we must also test what we feel within us by that sure Word. Not every sudden impression is the voice of God, and the Spirit never speaks contrary to Scripture. God has taught His people from their youth, and He teaches them still, but He does so through His Word, through His providence, and through a sober mind. Be not carried away by dread, but look unto Jesus, for in proportion as your faith gets stronger, your fear will vanish.

There is wisdom in prudence. If you have reason to believe any food is harmful, or if your conscience is troubled about that which is associated with darkness, it is right to put it away. We are to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather to walk as children of light. To discard what you cannot receive with thankfulness and a clear conscience is no sin. What would be a snare is to live in terror, as if poison could reach you apart from the Lord's permission, or as if the enemy could destroy one whom God means to keep.

Look into the side of Christ and see there God's hatred for sin and God's love for sinners, for the blood of Jesus Christ, God's dear Son, cleanses us from all sin. He was chastened but never cast out, and so His people, though tried, are still His pupils in His school. He will not put you to shame who have trusted in His name. Gird up your loins and ask, am I God's witness in this hour, and will I declare His wondrous works rather than the power of fear.

Therefore we counsel you thus. Bring your fear to Christ in prayer and leave it there. If the candy troubles you, let it be thrown away and think no more of it. Do not eat with fear, and do not let your household eat with fear. Give thanks for what is wholesome and pure, and abstain from what is doubtful. Speak of God's wondrous works, sing His psalms in your house, and let your children see not a spirit of dread, but a quiet trust that says, the Lord will help me.

We pray for you that the Lord will deliver you from all dismay, that He will keep your heart in perfect peace as your mind is stayed upon Him, and that you may know the blessed fear of the Lord which is holy reverence and awe, rather than the fear of men which brings a snare. May you look unto Jesus, who conquers for us the fear of death, and find in Him your help and your rest.
