Your prayer has been heard, and I thank God that you have brought these burdens honestly before Him. You ask what your life is for, and you feel weighed down by stress in health, in family, and in other relationships, and by struggles with lust. God does not turn away from such honest seeking.
The purpose of your life is not hidden from God. You were created to know Him through Jesus Christ alone, to be made new in Him, and to live for His glory now while waiting in hope for what is to come. Scripture continually points us to the resurrection for this reason, so that we do not judge God's care for us by present troubles alone. If you do not see His answers and His healing fully here, do not despair, but wait for the life to come, when He will raise up those who are His at the last day. Your present stress and sickness do not mean He has forgotten you.
Before we belong to Christ we are like clay and wax, easily melted by the flame of lust and shattered by every temptation. But in Christ God does a new work. As fire takes wax away and forms gold from metal, so God takes our old life and makes us new. The first man is of the earth, earthy, the second man is the Lord from heaven. Your purpose now is to become what He has made you to be, to be formed into that heavenly image day by day.
For the stresses that press on you, hear this word of encouragement. Do not remain in despair. The Scripture says to lift up the hands which hang down and the feeble knees, and to awake from sleep. The one who has fallen can rise again, and the one who stands must watch and keep what he has. Bring your health, your family, and your relationships to the Lord each day in prayer, and ask Him for wisdom and strength for today. He is the true physician of the soul. When the soul is sick, we should call in the physicians who never fail, Paul and Matthew and John and the prophets, by opening the Scriptures and listening to their counsel. They do not ask for payment, but they give medicine that brings both health and true riches, calling us to temperance, to prayer, and to trust.
For the struggle with lust, know that God understands the strength of this desire, for it is seated deeply in our nature, yet He calls us to rule it and not to serve it. His word says to make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. That means we are to care for the body for health, as Paul told Timothy to use a little wine for his stomach's sake, but not to feed desires that kindle sin. This means pruning away what feeds lust, such as lingering looks, impure images, idle fantasies, drunkenness and gluttony, soft and careless living, and seeking instead what strengthens the soul. God gave the gift of sex to be within one place only, the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Outside of that covenant, to give in to lust harms the soul and does not lead to life. Inside that covenant it is honored by God. If you are not married, God calls you to chastity, and if you are married, to faithfulness. In either case, flee what tempts you, and fill your mind and time with what is pure.
Do not think that a few days of trying will be enough. As with a body recovering from a long illness, the soul needs continual care, not only forty days but daily discipline. The Table of the Lord is given to us as the sinews of our soul and the bond of our mind, our hope and our life. Do not stay away from it, but come with repentance and faith, and let regular prayer, Scripture reading, fellowship with faithful believers, and honest work guard your heart.
I will pray for you now. Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ alone, who is the only way of salvation, I ask You to clear this dear one's mind and show Your purpose for his life. Give peace in place of stress, bring healing according to Your will for health, bring reconciliation and wisdom in family and relationships, and give strength to turn from lust and to walk in purity. Make him new like gold that has passed through fire, keep him from despair, and teach him to wait with hope for the resurrection and the life to come. Keep his flesh in health as You keep his soul, and lead him day by day in the chastening and admonition of the Lord. Amen.
