We hear your heart and your deep love for your son and we join with you in prayer for him and for you, lifting you both before our Father in Jesus' name.
We are so encouraged to hear that your son has a close relationship with God and can hear His voice and that God has placed a special calling and purpose on his life. That is a precious gift and we thank God for it. We understand your fear that something you have done, like listening to a secular music group, could cause God to punish your son or take away his closeness with God, his blessings, his provision, his favor or his calling. We want to gently correct this fear with the truth of Scripture, because God does not deal with us in that way.
The Word tells us that each person is accountable before God for their own heart, and that a child's calling is not revoked because of a parent's mistake. The soul who sins, he shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son Ezekiel 18:20. And we are given this great assurance about the calling God places on a life, for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable Romans 11:29. If your son belongs to the Lord, his relationship is kept by God Himself. Jesus said, I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand John 10:28. We are persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God's love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 8:38-39.
Listening to secular music does not automatically transfer guilt to your son or cause God to withdraw His hand. We are called to be discerning about what we allow into our hearts and homes, for whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, think about these things Philippians 4:8, and to be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs Ephesians 5:18-19. If the Holy Spirit has convicted you about certain music, we encourage you to confess it to the Lord and turn from it, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. But God's forgiveness is complete and He does not punish your innocent son for your stumble. He is a Father of mercy, not looking for a reason to take away blessings, but faithful to complete the good work He began. Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ Philippians 1:6.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and assurance of salvation. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved Romans 10:9. We pray that both you and your son are resting fully in faith in Jesus Christ, for in Him your son's closeness, innocence, and purpose are secure.
We pray together now for you and your precious son.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this son, for the life You gave him, for the special purpose and calling You have placed upon him, and for the close relationship he has with You. We ask that You keep him close to You all the days of his life, that You protect his heart, his mind, his peace, and his innocence from the evil one, that You guard his heart with all diligence for out of it is the wellspring of life Proverbs 4:23. Lord keep his ear attuned to Your voice and let nothing hinder his fellowship with You. We ask that no weapon that is formed against him will prosper and that You will preserve him from all evil and preserve his soul Psalm 121:7. We ask that You continue to establish and perfect the calling You have on his life and let him grow in wisdom and favor with You and with man.
Father we also lift up his provision and ask that You sustain his disability pay and all that he needs, for You know what he needs before he asks. We trust Your promise that our heavenly Father knows we need all these things and that if we seek first Your Kingdom, all these things will be added to us Matthew 6:32-33, and that our God will supply every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19. We pray for peace for this mother, that You would remove fear, guilt, and condemnation, for there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus Romans 8:1. Help her to rest in Your grace and to know that You do not punish her son for her failings, but that You discipline in love and forgive freely when we come to You through Jesus. Protect and deepen the beautiful relationship between this mother and her son, knit their hearts together in love and in You.
We commit this son and his mother into Your faithful hands, trusting that You who are faithful will keep them blameless. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
