Disciple of Prayer
Lord, I really care about this person. I hope that she doesn’t take it against me. I hate myself because I feel like we’ve both built so much, there was progress, and now it’s going down the drain. Lord, I hope this person knows that I have the best intentions for her.

We hear the deep pain and concern in your heart as you reflect on this relationship. It’s clear you care deeply, but let’s first turn to Scripture to align our hearts with God’s will. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." It’s natural to feel distressed when things don’t go as we hope, but we must surrender these emotions to God, trusting that His plans are perfect, even when they differ from ours.

We must also gently address the nature of this relationship. If this is a romantic connection, we encourage you to examine whether it aligns with biblical principles. Are you both believers in Christ, committed to pursuing marriage as a lifelong covenant before God? If not, we must rebuke any emotional or physical intimacy outside of marriage, as Scripture is clear in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." If this relationship does not honor God’s design for marriage between one man and one woman, we must humbly submit to His will and seek His guidance in moving forward in a way that honors Him.

If this is a friendship, we still encourage you to reflect on whether it is built on godly love and mutual edification. Are you both growing in Christ together, or has this relationship become a source of emotional dependency or distraction from God’s purpose for your life? The Bible warns us in 1 Corinthians 15:33, "Don’t be deceived! ‘Evil companionships corrupt good morals.’" We must guard our hearts and ensure that our relationships draw us closer to God, not away from Him.

Let us pray together for you and this situation:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear one who is struggling with the pain of a relationship that feels like it is slipping away. Lord, we ask that You would comfort them in their distress and remind them of Your unfailing love. Help them to release their fears and anxieties into Your hands, trusting that You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28).

Father, we pray for clarity and wisdom in this situation. If this relationship is not aligned with Your will, give them the strength to surrender it to You and the courage to walk away if necessary. If it is Your will for them to pursue marriage with this person, we ask that You would guide them both in godliness, purity, and mutual respect, that they may honor You in all things. Lord, we rebuke any ungodly attachments or emotional dependencies that may have formed, and we ask that You would break any chains of sin or disobedience in this relationship. Help them to see this person through Your eyes and to love them with a love that reflects Your heart.

We also pray for the other person involved. Lord, soften their heart to receive the love and intentions of this one who cares for them. If there has been misunderstanding or hurt, we ask that You would bring healing and restoration. Help them both to see the value of godly relationships and the importance of pursuing Your will above all else.

Father, we ask that You would fill this dear one with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Remind them that their worth is found in You alone, and that You have a plan and purpose for their life that is greater than anything they could imagine. Help them to fix their eyes on You, Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2).

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come before You and the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Lord, we acknowledge that without You, we can do nothing, but with You, all things are possible (John 15:5). Strengthen this one with Your Spirit, and guide them into Your perfect will. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word and seek His face daily. Spend time in prayer, not just about this situation, but about all areas of your life. Surround yourself with godly counsel, believers who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. Remember, God’s timing is perfect, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11). Even when things feel uncertain, He is working behind the scenes, preparing you for the future He has in store.

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. The Bible tells us in Romans 10:9, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is a free gift, but it requires a response, a turning away from sin and a turning toward Jesus. If you feel led to make this decision, we encourage you to pray and ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life. Confess your sins, repent, and invite Him to transform your heart. This is the first and most important step in living a life that honors God.

We hear the ache in your heart, and we want you to know, God sees this, and He’s holding you both in His hands right now. It sounds like you’re carrying so much love for this person, even when things feel like they’re unraveling, and that’s a beautiful thing. But we also want to remind you that your worth isn’t found in how this relationship plays out, it’s found in Jesus alone. He’s the one who calls you beloved, who reminds you that you’re His, and that His plans for you are full of hope.

We’re praying that God would soften the heart of this person, maybe they’re hurting too, maybe they don’t even realize how much they’re hurting you both. Lord, help them see the kindness in your intentions, the sincerity of your care. And if there’s any bitterness or misunderstanding, we’re asking You to break it down, to replace it with grace. Show them both the way forward, whether that’s healing this relationship or guiding you to walk in separate paths with peace.

For you, we’re praying for strength to let go of the weight of control. It’s okay to hope and dream, but we’re trusting You to hold the future. Fill you with Your peace, the kind that doesn’t depend on circumstances but rests in Your presence. Help you to love this person with the love You have for them, flawed, broken, and still deeply loved by You.

And if there’s any part of you that’s still clinging to self-hatred or shame, we’re declaring over you that you are forgiven, redeemed, and made new in Christ. You are His masterpiece, and He’s not done with you yet. In Jesus’ name, we’re asking for clarity, for His Spirit to guide your steps, and for both of you to find healing and purpose in His timing. Amen.

We’re here with you in this, walking beside you as you seek Him.
