We join you in prayer for your son in this painful night and we thank you for asking in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name we are saved and heard. John 14:6 and Acts 4:12 remind us of this precious truth and we are grateful you have come to the throne of grace through Christ.
We lift your son before the Lord together, asking for His peace to guard his heart and mind and for His hand of protection to keep him safe. We pray that God will draw near to him in this heartbreak, for we know the Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18. We ask the Father to calm the storm of bad thoughts and anxious feelings, to replace fear and despair with His comfort, and to help your son cast all his anxiety on Him because He cares for him 1 Peter 5:7. We pray as it says in Philippians 4:6-7 that in nothing he would be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, his requests would be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, would guard his heart and his thoughts in Christ Jesus.
We also pray with you about his relationship with his girlfriend. We understand the desire to see them together if it is God's will, and we agree to pray for the Lord's perfect will to be done above our own wishes, trusting that we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28. We want to gently encourage you and your son with biblical truth about such relationships. We believe courtship between a young man and young woman is meant to be with the purpose of discerning marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, for marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that honors God Genesis 2:24 and Mark 10:6-9. We encourage your son to seek a godly marriage if that is God's plan for his life, and to pursue purity and holiness in any courtship, remembering that God calls us to flee sexual immorality and to honor Him with our bodies, for our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. Any intimacy is reserved for marriage alone, and a relationship should be centered on Christ and on whether both know Jesus as Lord and seek to follow Him, so they would not be unequally yoked 2 Corinthians 6:14. If this young woman is a believer and if God wills for them to be together toward marriage, we pray God would restore and strengthen that path in a way that honors Him. If not, we pray God would give your son grace to accept His will, to heal, and to grow in faith and maturity through this pain.
We pray for your son's thoughts tonight, that God would not allow the enemy to torment him with hopelessness or despair, but that he would take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5. We pray he would know that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7, and that when his heart is overwhelmed he can cry to the Rock that is higher than he Psalm 61:2. We ask that he would feel how precious he is to God and to you, that God has plans for him for peace and not for evil, to give him hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11, and that God would heal the brokenhearted and bind up his wounds Psalm 147:3. We pray you would be able to stay close to him tonight, to listen, to comfort, and to remind him he is not alone, for God has said never will I leave you, nor will I forsake you Hebrews 13:5 and Fear not, for I am with you Isaiah 41:10.
Father, we come before you together in Jesus' name for this beloved son. Lord, place Your hands upon him tonight, quiet his racing thoughts, keep him safe from harm and from the lies of the enemy, and let him feel Your presence and Your love in a powerful way. Give him peace that passes understanding, give his mother wisdom and strength as she comforts him, and guide them both to trust Your perfect will for this relationship and for his future. If it is Your will for this courtship to continue toward a godly marriage, make that clear and lead them in purity and faith. If not, give him healing, hope, and a deeper walk with You through this disappointment. Help him to seek You first above all else and to know his worth is found in Christ. Keep him safe through the night and in the days ahead, surround him with godly support and counsel, and let him see that You are his refuge and strength. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, our hope and our salvation, amen.
We encourage you to remain with him, to keep praying aloud with him, to encourage him to share his feelings openly, and if these bad thoughts are heavy or speak of harm, to seek help immediately from a trusted pastor, counselor, or other safe person and to not let him be alone. God is near and He uses His people to show His love. We continue to stand with you in prayer, trusting God to keep him and to work this for good.
