Please Pray

Servant of All
God, please show ### that ### is not the one! The family does not like her and he isn’t even happy himself. Please just show him what he needs to do to finally get out of this marriage so everyone is happy including himself.

We hear your heart and the deep concern you carry for this situation. Marriage is a sacred covenant before God, designed to reflect Christ’s love for the Church, a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:22-33). It is not to be entered into lightly or dissolved lightly, for Scripture tells us, "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate" (Mark 10:9 WEB). The pain you describe is real, but we must approach this with biblical truth, not merely the pursuit of happiness.

First, we must rebuke the spirit of division and strife that seeks to tear apart what God has united. The Bible warns, "A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city; and contentions are like the bars of a fortress" (Proverbs 18:19 WEB). If this marriage is struggling, the answer is not to seek an exit but to seek reconciliation, repentance, and restoration, if possible. God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16), but He also hates abuse, unrepentant sin, and hardness of heart. If there is ongoing unrepentant adultery, abandonment, or abuse, Scripture allows for separation (Matthew 19:9, 1 Corinthians 7:15). However, if this is merely unhappiness or family disapproval, we must urge patience, prayer, and godly counsel.

We also must address the assumption that ending this marriage will bring happiness. The world often promises fulfillment through freedom, but true joy comes from obedience to Christ. If this man is a believer, he must seek God’s will above his own desires. "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB). If he is not a believer, we pray for his salvation, for only in Christ can true peace be found.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage to Your throne of grace. Lord, You see the pain, the confusion, and the longing for resolution. We ask that You would soften hearts, open eyes to Your truth, and bring clarity where there is doubt. If this marriage can be saved, we pray for reconciliation, let pride be broken, let forgiveness flow, and let love be renewed. If there is unrepentant sin or danger, we ask for Your protection and wisdom to walk in Your will.

Father, we rebuke the enemy’s lies that say happiness is found outside of Your design. We declare that true joy comes from obedience to You. If this man does not know You, we pray that he would surrender his life to Christ, for "there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12 WEB). If he is a believer, we ask that You convict him of any sin, draw him closer to You, and give him the strength to honor his vows.

Lord, we also pray for the wife in this marriage. If she is unaware of the struggles, reveal the truth to her in love. If she is a believer, strengthen her faith. If she is not, draw her to salvation. Let Your Holy Spirit work in both of their hearts, bringing healing and restoration where possible.

We trust You, God, to move in this situation according to Your perfect will. May Your name be glorified, and may Your people walk in Your ways. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

To the one who submitted this request, we urge you to seek godly counsel, pastors, biblical counselors, or mature believers who can provide wisdom rooted in Scripture. Marriage is hard, but God is faithful. If you or the husband in this situation do not yet know Christ as Savior, we plead with you to turn to Him today. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16 WEB). Only in Him can true peace and purpose be found.

May Lord Yeshua and Father God guide us. Watch over us. So we can do his will. Pray. Worship. Restrain ourselves. Practice faith. And repent the sinful life. Gods love for us. And mercy. Never fails. May God bless. Lord Yeshuas nsme amen.

We hear how heavy this is for you. It’s wrenching to love someone and watch them struggle in a marriage that feels so draining, both for him and for the family. Your concern comes from a caring place, and we know that kind of ache can make a quick exit seem like the only relief. But often the deepest peace isn’t found in walking away, but in walking toward what God may still want to do.

Rather than focusing on what he should leave, maybe the best next step is to encourage him to seek real clarity. He could meet with a pastor or a Christian marriage counselor, even on his own at first, to sort through the confusion and hear God’s direction. Sometimes a wise, outside voice helps uncover paths we haven’t seen, whether that’s healing in the marriage or a clear, God-honoring decision that isn’t driven just by pain or family pressure. If your church offers lay counseling or support groups, that could be another safe space.

In the meantime, your steady, prayerful presence matters hugely. Resist the temptation to push him toward a particular outcome; instead, love him well by trusting God to lead. We’ve seen marriages that looked dead come to life when someone chose to seek help before giving up, and we’ve also seen God guide someone through a painful, necessary change with grace. The goal is his genuine wellbeing, not just temporary relief.

Let’s pray for him together. Lord, we bring this man and his marriage before You. You see every hidden hurt and every strained relationship in the family. Give him a clear mind and a humble heart to seek Your will above all. Surround him with godly counsel and steady friends, and break through the fog of confusion with Your peace. Guard him from hasty decisions, and provide real hope, whether that’s restoration in his home or direction for what comes next. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Your request runs directly counter to the revealed will of God concerning the bond He Himself has made. You ask Him to dismantle what He has joined together, on the grounds that a family does not like her and that he is not happy himself. But what is this but impugning with indignation God's own ordinance? The unhappy persons in Scripture are those who will not believe in Jesus Christ, who reject God’s way of mercy; they hear the gospel, but refuse obedience to its command. And here you would call upon the Most High to bless disobedience to His command concerning marriage. What on earth is the good of your objecting? If God has made this to be the way, your best plan is to accept it. Leave your objections for something else, for to bemoan with bitter complaints God’s own institution must be the most unprofitable, not to say the most impertinent and wicked, way of wasting time.

Marriage is a relationship of choice, and in a true marriage that choice is cemented by mutual love. It is not a union that may be discarded when the family frowns or the heart feels a lack of happiness. How shall we call that a marriage where the husband and wife are still two persons, maintaining individuality as if it were a scrupulous condition of the contract? That is utterly foreign to the Divine idea. If this brother is not happy, let him examine himself. Is his unhappiness a burden born of his own sin, a backsliding from the Lamb who proved His love for him? If that backslider has been awakened to a sense of his true condition, he will feel very unhappy, so be very sympathetic towards him. Yet sympathy must never call evil good. Instead, may the Lord, by some soft and gentle voice within his conscience, call him to repentance.

Think once more of how God has blessed him. You were blessed with a happy marriage, your children are growing up around you, and whereas many others have had to bury their offspring, yours have all been spared. Do you not see how God has blessed you in all sorts of ways? Will you not, therefore, give Him your heart instead of demanding He break His own covenant for your comfort? The very shame you would try to avoid by fleeing this union is the appointed road to salvation. In the time of famine, we give the meal away first to the most hungry family. And you, my dear hearer, are like that if you are ashamed of yourself, ashamed of treating the holy bond as a trifle. These people would not have God, but would choose a self-made peace.

You speak of everyone being happy, even himself. But there is a family likeness belonging to the sons of God: they are led by the Spirit of God, not by the fickle winds of human approval or fleeting contentment. God grant that family prayer may be more regarded and that private prayer may be more diligently maintained. In that sacred place, let him not ask God to shatter his home on the altar of his own or his family’s desires. Rather, let him seek that blessed marriage of the soul to the Lamb, where love is proven not by ease but by wounds. I had no love to Christ, how could I have, till I saw His wounds and blood? It is there, at the cross, that every earthly bond is purified and every true happiness found, not by fleeing from our vows, but by dying to self within them. Then a voice whispers that being pardoned and justified, we are also adopted into the family of God, able to say, Abba, Father. Direct his gaze there, and true happiness, founded on obedience, not on the dissolution of his covenant, will follow.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
