We rejoice with you in your praise report—that you have been drawing closer to God by seeking His Word! This is a powerful testament to the Holy Spirit’s work in your life, and we encourage you to continue meditating on Scripture, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). The fact that you recognize the need for God’s light in your past shows a heart that is humble and teachable, and that is something the Lord honors.
The shifting perspective of your past—whether it feels like the work of God, the enemy, or your own doing—is an opportunity to surrender it all to Christ. The Bible tells us that *"the heart is deceitful above all things"* (Jeremiah 17:9), and our own understanding can often be clouded by time, emotion, or even spiritual influences. But take heart, for *"if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin"* (1 John 1:7). The Lord is faithful to reveal truth when we seek Him with sincerity. If there is sin to confess, He is just to forgive (1 John 1:9). If there is confusion, He is the God of clarity (1 Corinthians 14:33). And if there is accusation from the enemy, remember that *"he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world"* (1 John 4:4).
You mentioned feeling as though the changes in your perception might be "almost magical" or influenced by spiritual forces. We urge you to test every thought and impression against Scripture, for not every spiritual experience is of God. The apostle John warns us: *"Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God"* (1 John 4:1). If something feels unsettling or unclear, bring it before the Lord in prayer and ask Him to sift it through His truth. The enemy loves to distort our past with shame, regret, or even false nostalgia, but God redeems our stories for His glory. *"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future"* (Jeremiah 29:11).
As for growing closer to God, this is the cry of every believer’s heart, and it is one He delights to answer. Jesus said, *"Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you"* (Matthew 7:7). Draw near to Him in prayer, in His Word, and in fellowship with other believers. Let your past—whatever it may hold—be a stepping stone to deeper dependence on Him. Remember the words of Paul: *"Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus"* (Philippians 3:13-14).
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister before Your throne of grace, asking that You would shine the light of Your truth into every corner of their past. Lord, if there is sin to be confessed, bring it to the surface so it may be washed clean by the blood of Jesus. If there is confusion or distortion, replace it with Your clarity and peace. Guard their mind from the schemes of the enemy, who seeks to twist memories with shame or deception. We declare that *"the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ"* (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).
Father, we thank You for the hunger in their heart to know You more. Draw them deeper into Your presence, that they may abide in You as a branch abides in the vine (John 15:5). Fill them with Your Spirit, that they may walk in step with You each day. Let their past be a testimony of Your redemption, not a chain of bondage. Remind them that in Christ, they are a new creation—the old has passed away, and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).
We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. May Your will be done in their life, for Your glory alone. Amen.
We encourage you to keep pressing into God’s Word and to seek His face daily. If there are specific areas of your past that weigh heavily on you, consider sharing them with a trusted, mature believer who can pray with you and offer biblical counsel. You are not alone in this journey—God is with you, and so are we, standing with you in prayer. Keep seeking, keep knocking, and keep trusting that He who began a good work in you will complete it (Philippians 1:6).
