Please pray that he contacts me and we spend time together

Thank you for sharing your heart so openly and honestly. It takes humility to describe what happened, to admit the anxiety and insecurity behind it, and to say you are sorry. That sorrow is important, and God sees it.

I want to gently point you to what matters most first. Whatever pain or hope you feel about this relationship, your greatest need, and his greatest need, is the forgiveness of sins before God. That need is deeper than any other need for comfort, for reconciliation, or for answers in a relationship. When that need is settled with God, everything else finds its proper place. Scripture shows that God offers complete forgiveness to anyone who turns to Him through Jesus Christ, confesses honestly, and asks for His mercy. When He forgives, it is not partial or temporary. He washes and cleanses fully and does not bring the sin up again. Many people live with a troubled conscience because they have not yet received that pardon for themselves, but His invitation is open. If you have not already done so, bring this whole situation to Him in confession, including the anxiety, the hasty actions, and any other sin you are aware of, and receive His forgiveness by faith in Christ. That is the foundation for peace.

From that place, God also calls those who have been forgiven to live with a spirit of forgiveness toward others. We are to follow His example. Just as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us with a self giving love, we are to walk in that same kind of love. Forgiveness in the Bible is not a matter of counting how many times we must forgive, as if we could keep a ledger and stop at a certain number. Jesus taught that it is a matter of the heart and the spirit. Peter once thought he was being generous to suggest forgiving seven times, and Jesus answered in a way that showed forgiveness should have no such limit. The point is that we are to have a willing heart to forgive from the heart, not keeping score, and God will give the capacity to do so when we are willing to ask Him for it.

Human forgiveness is often incomplete. We say we forgive but we hold on to the offense and keep it ready to use again. That is not how God forgives. His forgiveness is total. Understanding this helps in two directions. First, you can rest in knowing that when you sincerely confess to God, He fully forgives you and you do not need to keep punishing yourself. Second, you can pray for that same spirit of forgiveness to be at work in both you and this man. You have explained and apologized, and it is good that you take responsibility without making excuses. At the same time, sending many repeated messages and then deleting them can add pressure and confusion. After you have spoken honestly and asked for forgiveness, it is often wisest to give space, to pray, and to entrust the outcome to God rather than trying to control his response.

It is also important to bring your anxiety to God. Scripture connects a life of love and forgiveness with health of mind and heart. Anxious thoughts can convince us of things that are not true, like assuming the worst about someone's intentions because of a delayed reply. Learning to walk in the kind of love that is patient and not self seeking helps calm that fear. That kind of love is learned from Jesus.

I will pray for you, not simply that you get a particular outcome tomorrow, but that God will do what is best and most loving according to His will. My prayer is that you will know deeply that you are fully forgiven in Christ and that you will have peace even while you wait, that God will calm anxious thoughts and help you grow in trust, that this man, if he is willing, will also have a spirit of forgiveness from the heart, and that God will give both of you wisdom about your relationship. If you continue to get to know each other, pray that you will honor God in how you relate, reserving intimacy for the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman as He designed, and seeking His guidance above your feelings.

You might pray along these lines: Father, have mercy on me according to Your kindness. I confess my sin and my anxious, insecure responses. Forgive me through Jesus Christ and cleanse me. Help me receive Your complete forgiveness and help me to forgive others as You have forgiven me. Give me a heart that forgives freely and loves as Christ loved. Give this man the same grace if it is Your will. Calm my heart, guide our steps, and let Your will be done in this relationship. I trust You with what happens next. In Jesus name, amen.

You are not beyond God's grace, and regret does not have to define you. Seek Him first for forgiveness and peace, and trust Him with the rest.
