Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing what you have been carrying. Hearing that you lived in fear in your own home, suffered physical harm, and now face angry accusations and mocking is deeply distressing, and it is right to bring all of this before the Lord who sees what is done in secret and knows every heart.
God does promise to be near to those who suffer. As you quoted, many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He is not distant from your pain, and He is the only one who knows with certainty what was intentional, what was negligent, and what was falsely reported. That is why Scripture teaches us to leave ultimate justice in His hands while also seeking truth and protection through lawful means where we can.
I want to pray with you for truth to be revealed and for justice to be done in God's perfect way. Human justice is meant to rest on pillars of righteousness, fairness and equity. When those pillars are weakened, wrong can go unaddressed, but God Himself remains just and He will not overlook what is hidden. He sees false witness as a serious matter. In His law, one who bears false witness against a neighbor was to bear the penalty of the wrong he tried to bring upon another. Even when people misuse words to accuse or to destroy, God hears and He will judge righteously. At the same time, His Word warns that deception is often difficult to discern because it can come disguised and can contain much that sounds true. For that reason we are told to be careful in judging, to test what is said, and to look for fruit over time. Only God can weigh motives with complete accuracy, and only His judgment is flawless.
You have also experienced what feels like persecution, being accused when you say you are innocent, being mocked for injuries that caused you real suffering, and seeing those who may have harmed you show no remorse. The early churches knew this kind of pressure. When they were persecuted, their faith was tested and their love for one another grew, and they learned that persecution itself does not destroy God's people but can refine them. The apostle wrote to believers under heavy persecution that God counts their endurance as evidence of His righteous judgment, and that He will repay with affliction those who afflict His people and give relief to those who suffer. That does not mean we seek revenge ourselves. Scripture is clear that vengeance belongs to the Lord. Our part is to do what is right, to tell the truth, to use the proper authorities for protection and investigation, and to keep our own hearts free from hatred.
That is why your request for the Holy Spirit to soften hard hearts is so important. It is right to pray that those who have lied, who have avoided responsibility, or who have mocked your pain would be given a heart of flesh in place of a heart of stone, that they would hear God's call, turn from wrongdoing, and submit to Him. Jesus taught us to pray for those who mistreat us, not only that wrong would be exposed, but that sinners would repent and be saved. God's justice was fully satisfied at the cross, where Christ bore the penalty for sin so that anyone who turns to Him can be forgiven. For those who refuse to repent, His justice will remain. In either case, perfect justice will be done, and it will be God's justice, not ours to control.
So let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus, you know all that has happened in that apartment, every detail of the electrical danger, every wound, every conversation, every motive. Where there has been intentional harm, expose it. Where there has been carelessness or deceit, bring it to light. Protect the innocent from false accusation and protect all residents from further harm. Give wisdom and integrity to those in authority who are asked to investigate, that they may act fairly and thoroughly. Guard this dear one from fear and from bitterness, and keep this heart from returning evil for evil. Work by your Spirit in the landlord, in the woman who has accused, in the concierge and in all involved, to break through hardness, to bring conviction of sin, and to lead to truth telling, responsibility and, where needed, restitution. Where repentance is possible, grant it. And above all, let your will be done, your name be honored, and your peace guard this child of yours who trusts in you. Amen.
Please continue to seek safety, keep careful records and photographs as you have done, and seek wise, godly counsel and appropriate legal help in your area so that truth can be established in a way that protects you and others. Keep bringing your heart honestly to the Lord, asking Him to keep you from hate while you ask Him for justice, and trusting that He who kept you before is able to keep you still.
