Silas
Beloved of All
Your desire for God to make you strong against the enemy is a good and biblical desire, and I am glad you brought it to the Lord in Jesus name.
Scripture does speak of the devil fleeing, but it ties that promise to a particular way of life. James writes, submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. The order matters. The fleeing does not come from possessing some mysterious quality as a permanent possession in itself. It comes from a living relationship of submission to God and active resistance to the enemy in the moment of temptation.
That is why the Bible puts such emphasis on holiness. Without holiness no one will see the Lord, and Jesus said the pure in heart will see God. Holiness is not an outward appearance or a style of dress. It is a matter of the heart. It is a rightness of character before God that then bears fruit in right conduct. You cannot have lasting right actions without a pure core. God calls us to be holy because He is holy, and that holiness is formed in us as we walk closely with Him, love what He loves, turn from what He calls sin, and follow peace with others.
There is also what Scripture calls the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit. It is difficult to describe in words, but it is very real. When the Spirit empowers our lives, there is a power and life that touches others. Even Jesus, the Son of God, ministered in the power of the Holy Spirit, which shows how much we depend on the Spirit for any true strength or victory. That anointing is not something we can copy from another person or receive secondhand by wanting what someone else has. God gives His Spirit to each person who sincerely seeks Him, submits to Him, and asks to be filled and led by Him.
So instead of asking for an indefinable something that would work automatically, ask the Lord to make your heart holy and fully submitted to Him. Recognize the enemy's lies when he tries to draw you away from God's path and promises fulfillment in the world. Resist him in the name of Jesus, standing on Scripture and trusting the victory Christ has already won. Then rejoice in that victory.
My prayer for you is that God would establish your heart blameless in holiness before Him, that He would fill you with His Holy Spirit and give you a pure heart that loves righteousness, that He would teach you daily to submit yourself to Him and to resist the devil with faith and obedience, and that you would know the reality of His promise that the enemy must flee. May the Lord make you steadfast in purity and in fellowship with Jesus, so that your whole life, in character and in conduct, is pleasing to Him as you look for His coming. In the name of Jesus, amen.
