Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly. I have read your request and I am praying for you. You describe little peace and more uncertainty than anyone you know, and at the same time you tell me that you pray, you read and study the Word, you are part of a good Bible church, and you hate your sin. That last part matters greatly. The fact that you still turn to Christ, still open the Scriptures, still stay with His people and still grieve over sin is a sign that God is at work in you and has not left you.
I hear the depth of your pain in the words that you asked God either to step in and help you or to end your life. I will not pray for your life to be ended, because your life is precious to God and He alone is the giver and keeper of it. I will pray for Him to step in, to sustain you, to give you life and hope and peace in Christ. If these thoughts feel heavy or urgent, please do not carry them alone. Go quickly to your pastor or an elder in your good Bible church, tell a trusted mature believer or family member how you are feeling, and if you ever feel you might act on these thoughts, please reach out right away to someone near you or to a trusted crisis helpline in your area. You do not need to face this uncertainty in isolation.
Scripture speaks directly to the place you describe. The apostle says we are pressed on every side yet not crushed, perplexed yet not unto despair, pursued yet not forsaken. Trials do indeed come, but the consequences of the trials need not overcome us, and this is through the power and grace of God. To be perplexed is not the same as to be abandoned. To feel pressed is not the same as to be destroyed. God allows trials not because He has forsaken His own, but to make their faith manifest and to strengthen them. As Abraham was tested not so God might learn what was in him, but so his faithfulness might be shown, so God uses trials to prove and refine His people. Your uncertainty does not mean you are forsaken.
One of the fathers wisely observed that the evil one never despairs of our destruction, and it would be a great condemnation if he never gives up hope of ruining us while we give up hope of our own salvation. Do not give in to despair. Short is this present life and small is its labor compared to the great hope set before us, and God calls us to rouse ourselves, to lay hold of the way that leads to Him and to keep going. The Lord who said Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you, is still the source of true peace. That peace is not the absence of problems but His presence with you in them, guarding your heart and mind in Christ, often through His Word, through prayer, and through His church.
So keep doing what you are doing. Keep praying even when words are few. Keep reading and studying the Word even when peace feels distant. Keep walking with your church family and let them know the weight you carry so they can bear the burden with you and watch over you. Hating your sin is not a mark of being far from God but of the Spirit convicting and keeping you near to Christ who alone saves.
Let me pray for you now.
Father in heaven, I lift up this dear soul to You in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation. You see all the many problems, the little peace, the great uncertainty. You know every thought and every sorrow. Lord, step in and help. Show Your nearness. Guard this life that You have given. Lift the weight of despair and grant faith to stand fast in You. Give a renewed mind, a steadier hope, and the peace that passes understanding as this soul continues in prayer and in Your Word and with Your people. Strengthen faith, grant endurance in trials, forgive sin through the blood of Christ, and lead step by step out of perplexity into trust in Your goodness and providence. Keep this one from harm and keep this one close to Christ today and in the days to come. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
You are not forgotten. Keep looking to Christ, keep reaching out to your pastors and to trusted believers, and let them walk with you daily. I will continue to pray that God will give you His help, His comfort, and His peace.
