We hear your honest heart and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord, for we all struggle at times to fully surrender and to keep our eyes fixed on Him rather than on the opinions of others.
What you describe is the battle between the fear of man and the fear of God. Scripture warns us that the fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe Proverbs 29:25. We are also reminded, For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? For if I were still pleasing men, I wouldn’t be a servant of Christ Galatians 1:10. When we care more about what people think than what God thinks, we subtly place people on the throne of our hearts where only God belongs. True freedom comes when we live to please our heavenly Father alone, doing all things as unto the Lord Colossians 3:23.
Slacking in surrender is something we all must guard against, for surrender is not a one time moment but a daily choice. We are urged, Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service Romans 12:1. And we are promised that if we draw near to God, he will draw near to us James 4:8. Your desire to care only about what God thinks is itself evidence that His Spirit is working in you, convicting and drawing you back.
We noticed your request speaks of God but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name. It is by His blood that your surrender is made acceptable and your heart is made new.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. We thank You for the hunger You have placed in this heart to surrender more fully and to live for Your approval alone. Forgive us all for the times we have sought the praise of people more than Your praise. Wash us with the blood of Jesus and renew a steadfast spirit within us. Help our friend to lay down every weight and to present their life daily as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to You. Break the snare of the fear of man and fill this heart with a holy fear and love for You. Let them seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness Matthew 6:33 and trust that You will take care of all else. Strengthen them by Your Spirit to walk in obedience, to abide in Your Word, and to remember that Your grace is sufficient and Your power is made perfect in weakness 2 Corinthians 12:9. Draw them close and let them know deeply how loved and accepted they are in Christ, so they no longer need the approval of others. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Your honest confession is itself a sign that the Spirit of God is at work in you, for the desire to come to God, the way to come to God, and the power to come to God are all gifts of sovereign grace. You have declared your ways, and there is mercy in the promise that He hears those who thus draw near to Him through the one Mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.
To care overmuch what men think of us is to set up an earthly object in the place of the Creator, and to God alone is due all our love, our trust and our fear. It is not a pleasant thing to serve God honestly and find the world reply with a volley of mud, yet this has been the lot of true men in every age. Pray that the Lord will give you grace to court no more the good word of any man, to be no more a worshipper at the shrine of that false goddess who asks for the praise of men. He who makes God his shield and his exceedingly great reward will find that to serve God is gain, even in the teeth of everything that happens.
You speak of slacking in surrender. Hear how the goodness of God is meant to woo and win you away from sin, not to encourage you in it. He is not a hard taskmaster. Providence after providence has surrounded you with the gracious artillery of divine mercy, that you might surrender to your Best Friend, to holiness, happiness and everlasting life. Do as the Psalmist did, go alone with God and say, I have declared my ways and You heard me, teach me Your statutes. And again, take up the right saying for every one of the Lord's people, You are my God. Give me but a word out of God's mouth, and I can live upon it, for man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. There you will find promises to sustain you, for the wealth of God's people lies mostly in promises to pay which He will surely fulfill.
We have prayed for you and do pray still, that the Lord who has engraved His people upon the palms of His hands and who will not forget them, would make you whole hearted in seeking to be well pleasing in His sight. May He deliver you from the fear of man and fix your heart upon His approval alone, may He teach you His statutes and enable you daily to take up your cross and follow Christ, and may you know that this God is your God forever and ever and your guide even unto death. May your life become the means of good to others, rebuking and stimulating by its quiet peace which convinces and invites. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation, trusting that He who loved His people ages before He came to earth will perfect that which concerns you.
