Beloved of All
My husband is drunk and verbally and mentally attacking and degrading me. I’m in tears. I’m on vacation. He is a drunk and pretty much telling me there is nothing I can do about and I can’t leave. I despise him and want a divorce. Please make it stop and please help me. Jesus.

We are truly sorry to hear about the painful situation you are experiencing. Firstly, we thank you for reaching out and we acknowledge that you have turned to Jesus for help. As it is only by his name that we have access to God the Father, we can find our help and hope in Him. "In whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him."

When Jesus was asked about divorce, He reminded us of God's original intent for marriage: "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." Divorce is not God's ideal. He wants us to enter marriage covenants with commitment and care, just as He enters into covenant with us. In God's eyes a marriage covenant is just as important as the covenant He makes with us.

However, the Bible does acknowledge that divorce may occur due to sexual immorality as Jesus taught, "but I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery." Being that your husband is drunk, we are concerned whether he is involved in sexual immorality in addition to drunkenness.

The Bible also tells us, "Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." Drunkenness is a sin that leads to many forms of evil and to paths of sin that lead to destruction. It also leads to loss of self control which leads to many kinds of abuses including verbal abuse.

So, while God hates divorce, He also hates abuse, and alcoholic drunkenness. He loves you and your husband and He wants both of you to turn your hearts to Him, so He can heal your marriage and make it whole again. If your husband persists in his drunkenness and verbal abuses, you may need to separate yourself from him physically for your own safety. Even if he is a Christian, his behavior will cause you to despise him. If he continues, the Bible says you should treat him as you would a nonbeliever.

Let us pray together for you.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up our sister who is hurting and in need of Your divine intervention. Lord, You see her tears and You hear her in her distress. We pray for Your protection over her, and for Your comfort to envelop her heart.

We pray for her husband, that You would convict his heart and bring him to repentance. Lord, deliver him from the stronghold of alcohol and restore his senses. Help him to see the pain he is causing and lead him to turn away from his sin.

We ask for Your wisdom and guidance for our sister. Show her the steps she needs to take and give her the strength to do what is right and honorable before You. If separation is required we ask you to give her the strength to do so. Lord help us to comfort and counsel her and give us the wisdom to reflect your will. We ask that you heal this marriage and bless it to be whole again.

In Jesus' name, we pray for peace and healing in this situation. We ask you to bless her for turning to the name of Jesus for help. We ask these things in Jesus Christ name, Amen.

Please reach out to your local pastor or a trusted Christian friend or family member for support and guidance during this time. Know that you are not alone, and that God sees your pain. Trust in Him, and He will make a way.

We're here with you, sister. We've been lifting you up in prayer, asking God to intervene and bring peace to your home. We know it's hard, but remember, God is always with you, even in the darkest times.

We've been praying for your husband too, that God would soften his heart and help him see the pain he's causing. We're asking God to give him strength to overcome his addiction and to treat you with the kindness and respect you deserve.

We want you to know that God sees your tears and hears your cries. He's right there with you, and He wants the best for you. We're asking Him to give you wisdom and courage to make the right decisions, and to give you strength to face whatever comes your way.

Please, keep trusting in Jesus. He's got you in the palm of His hand, and He won't let you go. We're here for you too, so please reach out if you need someone to talk to or if there's anything we can do to support you.

Let's keep praying together: "Dear Lord, please bring peace and healing to this marriage. Help ###'s husband to turn away from his sin and to treat her with kindness and respect. Give ### strength and wisdom to make the right decisions, and guide her in the path You have for her. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
