Please pray for us

Disciple of Prayer
I prayed for a companion and a much younger guy is pursuing me. I did mention to him that it's not a good thing but as younger people say these days age is but a number. I do look much younger than my age a blessing because I have had a relationship with God practically all my life. Please pray for us in the name of Jesus.

We join you in prayer and thank you for sharing this request with us and for invoking the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in no other name that we are saved. As it is written, There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2:5 and Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We rejoice that you have walked with God practically all your life and we give thanks for that blessing.

We have heard your heart as you prayed for a companion and now a much younger man is pursuing you. We understand the encouragement you may feel in being pursued and also the caution you wisely expressed to him. We want to gently address the phrase age is but a number. While the world often uses that saying, Scripture teaches us to seek wisdom and to consider matters with sobriety and discernment. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach and it will be given to him James 1:5 and Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. Age itself is not sinful, but age often reflects differences in maturity, life experience, spiritual development and life stage that matter greatly when considering marriage.

We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman and we encourage courtship that is intentionally directed toward that kind of God honoring marriage with another Christian believer. We do not view a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship as casual companionship but as a purposeful time of discerning whether God is leading two believers to become husband and wife. For that reason we encourage you to look beyond outward appearance, even the blessing of looking younger than your years, and to look at the heart and the spiritual qualifications. Can two walk together, unless they have agreed Amos 3:3 and Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14. Is this younger man a mature believer who walks faithfully with Christ, who can lovingly lead a home as Scripture calls a husband to do, for the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly Ephesians 5:23. That is a serious calling that requires spiritual maturity, stability and readiness to provide and to shepherd a family.

We also encourage you to consider the biblical counsel for older women to be reverent and to encourage what is good Titus 2:3 and to seek wise counsel from pastors or godly older believers who know you both and can observe his character over time. Love is patient and kind and does not rush 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, so there is no need to be hurried by flattery or attention. We encourage you both to maintain clear boundaries and purity during this time of discernment, for God calls us to flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18 and to treat one another with all purity 1 Timothy 5:2. Any physical intimacy outside of marriage would be fornication and would not honor God or help you discern His will clearly.

We pray together for you both now. Father in heaven, we lift this sister to You with thanksgiving for her lifelong walk with You. We ask for Your clear wisdom and peace that surpasses understanding to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. If it is Your will for her to be married, we pray You would provide a godly husband who loves You first, who is mature in faith and able to lead a Christ centered marriage. If this younger man is not the one You have prepared, we pray You would make that clear with grace and truth and protect both from an unequal or unwise yoke. Help them both to seek You above companionship itself and to desire Your will more than their own. Keep them pure, keep them accountable and surround them with godly counsel. We ask that Your perfect will be done in both of their lives and that You would be glorified in whatever outcome You ordain. In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, amen.

We are glad you reached out and shared this with us. It makes sense that this feels tender and a bit complicated. You prayed faithfully for companionship for a long time, you have walked with the Lord for many years, and now someone is showing interest and you are trying to sort out what is wisdom and what is just excitement or pressure.

An age difference can sound simple when people say age is just a number, but in real life it often means different life stages, expectations, energy, family and friendship circles, and hopes for the years ahead. Looking younger is a kindness, but it does not erase those practical differences, so taking time to see them clearly is loving to both of you.

A step that often helps is to bring this into the light with one or two mature believers who know you well, perhaps a pastor or an older woman you trust. Invite them to get to know him with you over time, to ask honest questions, and to help you notice character, consistency, and how he respects the boundaries you set. Moving slowly and keeping clear boundaries while you pray gives you space to hear the Lord without feeling rushed.

Father, we lift our sister to You and thank You for her long walk with You. Give her deep peace, clear wisdom, and trusted counsel as she seeks Your will. Guard her heart and his, and lead both of them in purity, honesty, and respect. Make Your direction plain in the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

We have received your request and thank you for sharing your heart so openly. The desire for godly companionship is one the Lord understands, and it is right to bring it before Him in prayer.

We would encourage you to seek the wisdom that comes from above as you consider this pursuit. Wisdom is man's true path and the compass by which we are to steer across this life, and its price is above rubies and it is found in Christ and in the Word of revelation. Our own apprehensions and the sayings of this age, such as that age is but a number, are not a sure guide. As one who has walked with the Lord for many years you know the value of leaning not upon your own understanding but upon the power and wisdom of God, and of trusting godly counsel rather than your own judgment alone. A difference in years may not in itself be contrary to Scripture, yet it brings with it questions of maturity, life experience, spiritual steadiness and future calling that deserve much prayer and unhurried consideration. That you may look younger than your years is a kindness of providence, but true fitness for marriage is found in character, in settled faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and in readiness for the responsibilities of a lifelong covenant.

Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that the blessings of living together and of the marriage bed belong within that covenant alone. Any relationship that would move toward impurity or toward living together outside of marriage would not be according to the will of God, however sincere the affection may seem. For this reason we encourage you both, if you have not already, to bring this matter before your pastor and before mature believers who know you, to walk in openness and accountability, and to keep yourselves pure as you seek the Lord's mind together.

Our prayer for you is not simply that this relationship would continue, but that the will of the Lord would be made clear and that you would be given grace to follow it. We pray that the Lord Jesus Christ would be your wisdom and your guide, that He would grant you discernment, patience and godly fear which brings a goodly consequence, that He would guard your hearts from haste or self deception, and that if it be His will to give you a companion, it would be one with whom you can walk together in faith and obedience. We pray also that He would keep you both in holiness and in sincere devotion to Him, and that whatever the outcome, you would find your deepest contentment in knowing Christ as your personal Saviour and in craving Him above all else.

Continue to seek Him in His Word and in prayer, and to heed the counsel of those godly voices He has placed around you. May the Lord give you clarity and peace as you trust His wisdom, for what He does is always best.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing your prayer request and for your honesty about the conflict you feel in your heart. You mentioned that you told this younger man that the age difference is not a good thing, and that part of you still feels uncertain. That uneasiness matters and should not be pushed aside.

Scripture teaches that conscience is like a tribunal inside us. When we try to quiet it or pretend not to know what it is saying, we do not find peace, we only add to our confusion. It is far better to listen carefully when conscience is speaking and to bring that doubt honestly before God, rather than to act while still doubting and then condemn ourselves afterward. God wants us to act with a clear and good conscience, not with hesitation and inner division.

It is good that you have walked with God for most of your life and that you have prayed for a companion. That desire itself is not wrong, but the way we pursue it matters. Youthful slogans like age is but a number sound simple, yet they do not reflect biblical wisdom. Age, maturity, life experience, and stage of life are real and they shape a marriage. Looking younger than your years may be a kindness from God, but outward appearance is not a sign that any particular relationship is His will. A clear eye looks beyond appearance to character, faith, and readiness for the responsibilities of a lifelong covenant.

Marriage in Scripture is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and love within it is marked by purity, moderation, and peace. Sex and living together belong only within that covenant, not before it and not outside it. The bond that holds two people together in God is not passion or flattery, but love expressed with self control and a commitment to keep the unity of the Spirit in peace.

There is also a difference between worldly sorrow and godly sorrow. Worldly sorrow is troubled about what people think or about losing what we want. Godly sorrow is troubled about whether we are pleasing God and leads us to repentance and clearer obedience. Ask yourself whether your mourning is for the fear of being alone, or for the desire to be fully faithful to Christ whatever His answer may be.

So we will not simply ask God to bless this relationship as it is, because to do so without knowing His will would not be loving. Instead we will pray for you and for this young man that God would give you both wisdom, honesty, and purity.

We pray that the Father would give you clarity and a calm, settled conscience, that He would lift your minds above mere earthly desires to seek first His kingdom, that He would surround you with wise and godly counsel from mature believers who know you well, and that He would keep you both from any step that would compromise holiness. If this companionship is from Him and can lead to a holy marriage founded on shared faith, maturity, and a common direction in Christ, pray that He would make that clear in His time and through proper order. If it is not His will, pray that He would give you grace to step back with peace and without bitterness, trusting that His provision for you is good.

Please seek counsel from a pastor or trusted older believers face to face, guard your hearts and bodies in purity, and continue to seek Christ Himself more than any companion. He is faithful to lead those who are willing to be led.
