Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this honestly. What you are describing is something every believer faces in one form or another, and it is important to understand what is happening.
Being tempted is not itself sin. Even Jesus was tempted, yet without sin. The sin comes when we yield to the desire and conceive it in action. A dream or a sudden urge does not mean you have failed. It is a solicitation to turn aside from the path God has for you toward something that promises immediate fulfillment. God does not solicit us to evil, but He does allow testing, and that testing can become a proving of our faith that develops patience and strength as we learn to wait on Him.
In every temptation there is a decision. Will we walk according to the flesh or according to the Spirit. The flesh says take the quick satisfaction now. The Spirit calls us to choose what honors God and leads to life. You do not have to be mastered by the urge. In Christ you have been made alive to God and you can choose to say no to the flesh.
Jesus understands this struggle completely. He faced real temptation and overcame it, and He now lives as our great high priest who is able to help us when we are tempted. He knows what it is to feel the pull toward an easier or more immediate way, and He has made a way for us to stand.
God also promises that with every temptation He will provide a way out so that you can endure it. Sometimes that way out is to flee, to physically remove yourself from the place or situation that feeds the urge. It takes more courage to run from temptation than to give in to it, but fleeing is often the wisest and strongest choice. If certain games, videos, late night habits, or idle time stir up these urges, step away from them. Do not linger to see if you can handle it.
The greatest power we have in that moment is the Word of God. Let your delight be in Scripture. When the urge comes, answer it with truth you have hidden in your heart. Quote it, pray it, and let it redirect your mind to Christ.
The Bible says blessed is the one who endures temptation, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him. God wants to grow endurance in you, not just remove a feeling for a moment.
I am praying for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus, I lift up this dear one to You. Thank You that You know every thought and every struggle and that You are full of mercy. I ask that You would give strength to choose the way of the Spirit over the flesh when urges come. Fill the mind with Your peace and Your Word, and show the clear way of escape in each moment of temptation. Bring patience and quiet confidence as faith is tested, and let this become a place of growth and victory. Guard sleep and dreams, and renew the heart to love what You love. Keep this life close to You and help each step to be lived for Your glory. Amen.
If these urges continue to press, keep bringing them to the Lord quickly in prayer, stay in the Word daily, and stay in fellowship where you can be encouraged. God is with you to give you victory in the midst of the trial.
