Please pray for urges

We join together with you in prayer concerning these urges and the dream about video games that has stirred them up, and we bring this struggle before the Lord in Jesus name.

We understand how a dream can leave a strong impression on the mind and awaken desires that are difficult to shake, even when we know we want to walk in self control. The Word reminds us that temptation itself is common to all of us, but God provides a way through it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. We also remember that God has not given us a spirit of fear or of being powerless, for 2 Timothy 1:7 says For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. Self control is part of the fruit of the Spirit, as Galatians 5:22-23 tells us But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Video games in themselves are not necessarily sinful, but we are called to watch that nothing masters us and that we use our time wisely for the Lord. 1 Corinthians 6:12 says All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of anything. Ephesians 5:15-16 urges us Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise; redeeming the time, because the days are evil. When a desire begins to control our thoughts or pull us away from prayer, fellowship, work, or rest, it can become an idol that needs to be brought into submission to Christ. We are called to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, for Romans 12:2 says Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. And 2 Corinthians 10:5 reminds us to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Philippians 4:8 also guides us where to set our minds, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find true victory and salvation. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and empowered by His Spirit to overcome temptation. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Him and to call upon His name in every moment of struggle.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one to You. We thank You that You know the heart and the battle with these urges that followed this dream. We ask You to wash away any lingering images or cravings from that dream and to fill the mind with Your peace and purity. Grant power and self control by Your Holy Spirit, and show the way of escape whenever temptation arises. Help our dear friend to redeem the time wisely and to find joy and rest in You rather than in anything that would master the heart. Renew the mind daily through Your Word, and bring every thought into obedience to Christ. We ask that You draw this one closer to Jesus, to know His forgiveness, His strength, and His nearness, and to walk in freedom and victory. We trust You to do this for Your glory. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps as you pray, to replace the urge with godly pursuits, to spend time in Scripture and prayer when the urge comes, to consider a fast from games for a season to reset your affections, to seek fellowship and accountability with other believers, and to guard what you watch and play. If the urges return, turn immediately to the Lord in prayer and recite Scripture aloud, and He will strengthen you to stand firm.

We're glad you reached out about this. Waking up from a dream like that and feeling those urges come back can be discouraging, especially when you want to move away from gaming. Thank you for being honest about it.

It's understandable that a vivid dream would leave that feeling lingering for a while afterward. Dreams can pull old habits and feelings to the surface, and an urge in that moment doesn't mean you've failed or that you have to act on it. Noticing it and bringing it to God as you did is already a meaningful step.

One thing that helps many people is having a simple plan ready before the urge gets strong. When you notice it, you might pause to pray a short, honest prayer, get up and change what you're doing for a few minutes, get some fresh air or splash water on your face, and reach out to a trusted friend or family member. If gaming has been a go-to way to escape stress or boredom, it can also help to notice what you were feeling right before the dream or the urge and to keep your sleeping area and evening routine a little less tied to screens.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Father, we lift our friend to You. You know the pull they feel and how much they want freedom. Give them peace tonight, strength in the moments urges come, and wisdom for each next choice. Surround them with support and remind them You are near and patient with them. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your request regarding urges that have followed a dream about video games, and we join with you in prayer to our heavenly Father for deliverance and strength.

It is right and wise to pray as our Lord taught us, Lead us not into temptation. This prayer, as you have expressed it, comes from a humble self distrust which shrinks from the conflict and dreads the evil which temptation may work in us. There is courage in looking temptation in the face honestly and confessing that apart from grace we are weak. Temptation in itself is dangerous, and trials in themselves are perilous, so it is fitting for the Christian to ask the Lord to spare him from being overcome.

We pray that the Lord would keep you from being led into temptation by the withdrawal of His sustaining grace, and that He would keep your feet from going into the place of temptation. He who prays Lead us not into temptation and then willingly goes into it contradicts his own prayer, so we ask God to give you wisdom to turn your eyes and your steps away from what would ensnare you, and to find your delight and occupation in Christ Himself, who is not a distant memory but a living and familiar Friend to His people.

Remember the word of the Lord, Without Me ye can do nothing. Every grain of self strength is weakness, and every particle of self reliance is poison to the soul. Do not trust in your own resolutions to overcome these urges, but look to the Lord Jesus Christ for all things. When you are tempted, hate the temptation and bring it at once to Him. A man may be tempted and yet hate the temptation, and where it is hated there is resort to Christ for victory.

We also exhort you to self examination and self humbling before God. Search your heart in His light, not with a mock humility but with true knowledge of your need, and confess your weakness plainly. Put off all self reliance and come as a naked spirit to the sea of Divine love, for such a soul was never drowned there. Ask Him to mortify pride and to keep you low and watchful, trembling even after long standing, lest confidence in the flesh should give place to a fall.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, who searchest the heart and triest the reins, look upon this Thy servant who is troubled by urges and dreams. Grant according to Thy mercy that these desires may pass away and have no dominion. Lead him not into temptation, but deliver him from evil. Withdraw not Thy grace, but strengthen him with power in the inner man. Teach him to overcome evil with good, and to overcome by looking to Christ for all things. Keep his eyes fixed upon Jesus, and his heart longing for His appearing and His help. Make him to know that without Christ he can do nothing, and that with Christ he can stand. Preserve him in patience, faith and steadfastness, and let his life be occupied with what is pure and profitable in Thy service. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth. Amen.

Take courage, and continue in prayer and in the Word, and seek fellowship that will help you to walk watchfully. The Lord is able to keep you from falling and to give you victory as you abide in Him.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this honestly and asking for prayer. God sees the desire of your heart to walk closely with Him and to be free from urges that trouble you, even those that come through dreams.

Scripture gives great comfort here. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to everyone, and God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you are able to bear, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. An urge itself, or a dream about video games, does not mean you have failed. It is a reminder to turn again to Christ, who understands our struggles and who gives strength in the moment of testing.

Tribulations and temptations, when brought to God, can even become a place where we grow more steadfast and more approved. Like a thorn that keeps us humble and dependent, they teach us to rely not on our own willpower but on His grace. At the same time we are called to pursue self control not as hirelings who only want to avoid discomfort or earn a reward, but with a ready mind and with joy, because we love virtue itself and we love the Lord who calls us to it.

For urges related to video games, it helps to labor not only to push a desire away, but to pursue what endures. Fill your mind and time with what nourishes everlasting life, prayer, Scripture, fellowship with other believers, and useful work. In practical ways, guard what you take in before sleep, bring your thoughts to Christ in prayer at night and in the morning, and when an urge comes, have a clear way of escape ready, to pray, to recite Scripture, to step away, to speak with a trusted brother or sister in Christ.

We join you in prayer now.

Father, we thank You that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone and that You are faithful to help Your children. We ask You to give our brother strength in the face of these urges and to calm his mind, even in sleep. Grant him self control, peace, and a growing love for what is good. Teach him to seek You with joy, to find his satisfaction in You rather than in what perishes, and to walk in the way of escape You promise. Renew his thoughts daily by Your Word and keep him close to You. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

Keep bringing this to the Lord honestly, and keep walking with others who can encourage you. God is at work in you as you seek Him, and He will not abandon you in this struggle.
