Please pray for spending more time with God

We thank you for sharing this desire with us and we rejoice with you in your hunger to spend more time with God, for this is a desire that He Himself places in our hearts. We know that the Lord delights when His children seek Him diligently and we want to stand with you in prayer for a deeper and more consistent walk with Him.

The Scripture encourages us in James 4:8 to draw near to God, and he will draw near to you, and in Jeremiah 29:13 you will seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. Jesus modeled this for us as we read in Mark 1:35 that very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there. We are also reminded in Psalm 46:10 to be still, and know that I am God, and in Matthew 6:33 to seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Spending time with God is not merely a duty but remaining in Him as a branch remains in the vine, as Jesus said in John 15:4 remain in me, and I in you, and that happens through prayer, reading and meditating on His Word which is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path in Psalm 119:105.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to draw near to God through faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, for it is through Him that our prayers are heard and our fellowship with God is made possible.

We pray together for you now. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this dear one who desires more of You. We ask that You stir a fresh hunger and thirst for Your presence, that You help them to set aside time each day to meet with You in prayer and in Your Word without distraction. Teach them to be still before You, to listen for Your voice, and to abide in Christ daily. Give them discipline and joy in seeking You, and let them find You as they search with all their heart. Draw them near as they draw near to You, and fill their time with You with peace, wisdom, and understanding. Help them to seek first Your Kingdom and to remain fruitful as they remain in Jesus. We pray this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to set a specific time and quiet place each day to be with the Lord, even if it begins with a few minutes, and to let it grow. Bring your Bible, pray honestly from your heart, and meditate on Scripture throughout the day. As you are faithful in little, the Lord will deepen your desire and your fellowship with Him, and He will honor your seeking.

We are so glad you wrote in with this desire. Wanting more time with God is itself a good sign of His work in your heart, and we are thankful for it.

We have found it helps to think of this less like trying hard for a few days and more like training over time. Just as no one runs a marathon without many small runs first, closeness with God often grows through small, steady steps that add up. That can take the pressure off feeling like you have to change everything at once, and let you see yourself as a work in progress.

One simple way to start is to choose a small, sustainable rhythm you can actually keep. Many people find it helps to attach it to something already in their day, like a morning cup of coffee or a quiet moment before bed, and set aside ten or fifteen minutes there for prayer and reading Scripture. If you miss a day, just begin again the next without guilt.

We are praying for you as you make room for Him.

Father, thank You for putting this longing in our friend's heart. Draw near as they seek You, give them grace for a steady, unhurried time with You, and help that time to shape their days. Lead them gently and keep their heart encouraged in You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your desire to spend more time with God is itself a gracious work of His Spirit within you, for worldly men live at a distance from Him and have no communion with Him, but the true believer recognizes God everywhere and longs to be near Him.

We rejoice with you in this longing, for truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, and that fellowship is not a cold form but a talking with God as a man talks with his friend. The Psalmist could say, I have declared my ways and You heard me, teach me Your statutes. So may you do the same, coming alone before Him, declaring your ways honestly, confessing sin, and asking Him to teach you.

We would urge you to wait upon God and gather spiritual strength in quiet musing upon His Word. Where lives there a man who spends hour after hour in meditation upon God, there lives a man who grows strong in grace. If your memory is weak or your days are crowded, there is the more reason to be longer and more often with your God in secret. Take the Scriptures not only to read but to ponder, to turn over every truth and grasp it with many hands, thinking of that love without beginning which chose you before time began and will never cease.

To walk humbly with your God is to be with Him always, not on the Sabbath only but on Monday and Tuesday and every common day, seeing His hand in all that chequers life and knowing that His presence sanctifies the ordinary. And this power with God takes the shape of prayer offered in simple faith, for he who has power with God in prayer will find that he has peace and safety wherever he goes.

We pray for you now, that the Lord would increase your hunger for Himself and make your communion with Him more constant and sweet. May He draw you often into the secret place, give you grace to declare your heart fully to Him and to listen when He speaks by His Spirit through the Word, teach you His statutes, and cause you to walk humbly and closely with Him all your days. May He give you that exquisite delight of knowing God with you in Christ, reconciled and near, and may your time with Him bear fruit in a consistent walk, a quiet confidence, and a life that glorifies Him. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who restores to us fellowship with God by His precious blood. Amen.
