Your broken heart over this distance is heard, and God sees the pain of this estrangement. He is a God who cares deeply about family, and His heart is for restoration and healing where there has been brokenness.
Scripture shows us how God watches over families and weaves His purposes even through painful seasons. Mordecai raised Esther as his own daughter when she had lost her parents, and he walked faithfully near her to know how she was doing and to guide her. She trusted his counsel and followed it. Later, when her people were in danger, she was reminded that deliverance would come from God in any case, and that perhaps she had been placed where she was for such a time as this. Nothing was mere coincidence. In the same way, Joseph was sent ahead into Egypt so that in a time of famine his family might be sustained and kept alive. That was God's larger purpose at work through hard circumstances. We can trust that God is still at work in your family, that He sees each person and each relationship, and that He is able to sustain and to bring deliverance in His time and His way.
You asked for healing, and that is so fitting to bring to Jesus. The Bible shows that He bore our infirmities as well as our sins, as Isaiah foretold and Matthew confirms, and He went about healing every sickness and disease among the people. Yet healing does not always look the same. Sometimes it is instant, sometimes it is gradual. There is only one recorded instance in the Gospels where healing came in stages, which reminds us that God is not confined to a single pattern. Sometimes He touches, sometimes He speaks a word from a distance, sometimes He works through a slow process. Any true healing process is divine, because God Himself created our bodies and the natural processes within them. That is still His healing. And healing is not only physical. He also brings healing to the mind and the emotions, mending the scars and wounds that life has left behind.
There is much about healing and restoration that we do not understand. Even the apostle Paul prayed three times concerning his thorn and learned that God had a different purpose in that case. If we were in charge, we would heal everyone instantly and completely, but we are not God. We can believe strongly that God is able to heal today, while also trusting His wisdom when the answer is gradual or when we must wait. What we can hold to is that He has power in every realm, over bodies and circumstances and spiritual forces, and He invites us to bring every need to Him.
So we pray with you for reconciliation, restoration and healing in your family.
We pray for your son, that God would give him clarity, truth and discernment, strength to see clearly and courage to make decisions before the Lord, and a deep assurance that he is loved by God and by you. We pray that anything causing division, confusion or unhealthy influence would be exposed and broken, and that his heart would be softened and guarded in peace.
We pray for his wife, that the Lord would bring healing to past hurts and to patterns carried from earlier years, that she would find wholeness in Christ and not see those patterns passed to the next generation. May God heal emotional wounds and bring freedom where there has been pain.
We pray for your grandchildren, that they would be protected from being caught in the middle of adult conflict, that they would be kept in peace and always know they are dearly loved by all of their family and most of all by Jesus who loves children deeply.
We pray for you as well, for comfort in this brokenhearted season, for wisdom to respond to hurt with kindness and love, and for hope that God can break generational patterns and bring families back together. May the Lord guide you in every step, soften every heart, and in His perfect way and timing bring the enlargement and restoration that only He can give.
We stand with you in faith that God hears, that He is the healer of what is broken, and that He is able to do what seems impossible.
