We hear the deep pain and exhaustion in your heart, and we stand with you before the Lord, lifting this heavy burden to Him. The home should be a place of refuge, love, and mutual respect, founded on the principles of Christ, but what you are describing is a spirit of strife, control, and even malice. Scripture warns us in James 3:10, "Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so." Your wife’s words are not only ungodly but dangerous, for Proverbs 18:21 declares, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." When she invokes curses upon you, she is speaking destruction, not just over your life, but over the marriage itself.
We must also address the spirit of control at work here. The Bible is clear that marriage is a partnership of mutual submission, as Ephesians 5:21 instructs: "Submitting yourselves to one another in the fear of Christ." A wife who seeks to dominate, manipulate through demands for apologies, or withhold gratitude is operating in direct opposition to God’s design. This is not the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), but rather a work of the flesh, pride, bitterness, or even a spirit of witchcraft (as rebellion is likened to in 1 Samuel 15:23). We rebuke this spirit in the name of Jesus Christ, for no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
First and foremost, we pray that your wife’s heart would be softened and convicted by the Holy Spirit. May God open her eyes to the gravity of her words and the damage they are causing. We ask the Lord to break any strongholds of anger, bitterness, or unforgiveness in her life, for "if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (Matthew 6:15). We also pray for your protection, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Cover yourself and your home in the blood of Jesus, declaring Psalm 91 over your life: "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." No curse spoken against you will take root, for the Lord is your shield and defender (Psalm 3:3).
We encourage you to set firm boundaries in love, as Jesus Himself did when faced with hostility (Matthew 12:15). You are not called to endure abuse, whether verbal, emotional, or spiritual. Seek wise, biblical counsel from a pastor or godly mentor who can help you navigate this with wisdom. If your wife is a believer, Matthew 18:15-17 outlines steps for restoration, but if she remains unrepentant, you may need to consider separation for your own well-being (1 Corinthians 7:10-11). Above all, do not carry this burden alone. The Lord sees your suffering, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).
Let us pray together now:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage and this precious brother in Christ. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in this home, for Your Word says that where there is strife, there is every evil work (James 3:16). We rebuke the spirit of control, cursing, and manipulation in the mighty name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against this marriage shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against Your servant in judgment shall be condemned (Isaiah 54:17).
Father, we ask for a supernatural work in this wife’s heart. Soften her spirit, convict her of her words, and lead her to repentance. Let her see the damage her actions are causing, not just to her husband, but to her own soul. Replace her anger with Your peace, her bitterness with Your love, and her pride with humility. If there is unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in her life, expose it and bring healing.
Lord, we also pray for our brother. Strengthen him in his weakness, guard his heart from bitterness, and fill him with Your supernatural peace. Give him wisdom to know how to respond, whether in love, correction, or separation, according to Your will. Protect him from the effects of these curses, for You have not given him a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Surround him with godly support, and let him feel Your presence in a tangible way.
We declare restoration over this marriage, but only according to Your perfect will. If this union can be saved, let it be for Your glory. If not, we ask that You would guide our brother into a place of safety and peace. Above all, Lord, let Your name be honored in this situation. We ask all these things in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to You. Amen."
Do not lose hope, dear brother. The Lord is your refuge, and He will not abandon you. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and trust that He is working even in this painful season. You are not powerless, you have the authority of Christ to stand firm, speak truth, and walk in His peace. If you have not already, we urge you to seek counsel from a trusted pastor or biblical counselor who can walk with you through this. You are not alone.
