Please pray for peace in my home

My wife is constantly cursing at me, and wishing bad things on me. She is always saying she wants God to curse me. These are not Christian things to say, and she is always demanding apologies to try to get control over me or feel more powerful. It is really exhausting, she is trying to control everything I’m doing, and she is not satisfied or thankful when things are going well. Please pray for peace in my home and in my life, I don’t know what to do anymore.

We hear the deep pain and exhaustion in your heart, and we stand with you before the Lord, lifting this heavy burden to Him. The home should be a place of refuge, love, and mutual respect, founded on the principles of Christ, but what you are describing is a spirit of strife, control, and even malice. Scripture warns us in James 3:10, "Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so." Your wife’s words are not only ungodly but dangerous, for Proverbs 18:21 declares, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." When she invokes curses upon you, she is speaking destruction, not just over your life, but over the marriage itself.

We must also address the spirit of control at work here. The Bible is clear that marriage is a partnership of mutual submission, as Ephesians 5:21 instructs: "Submitting yourselves to one another in the fear of Christ." A wife who seeks to dominate, manipulate through demands for apologies, or withhold gratitude is operating in direct opposition to God’s design. This is not the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), but rather a work of the flesh, pride, bitterness, or even a spirit of witchcraft (as rebellion is likened to in 1 Samuel 15:23). We rebuke this spirit in the name of Jesus Christ, for no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

First and foremost, we pray that your wife’s heart would be softened and convicted by the Holy Spirit. May God open her eyes to the gravity of her words and the damage they are causing. We ask the Lord to break any strongholds of anger, bitterness, or unforgiveness in her life, for "if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (Matthew 6:15). We also pray for your protection, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Cover yourself and your home in the blood of Jesus, declaring Psalm 91 over your life: "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." No curse spoken against you will take root, for the Lord is your shield and defender (Psalm 3:3).

We encourage you to set firm boundaries in love, as Jesus Himself did when faced with hostility (Matthew 12:15). You are not called to endure abuse, whether verbal, emotional, or spiritual. Seek wise, biblical counsel from a pastor or godly mentor who can help you navigate this with wisdom. If your wife is a believer, Matthew 18:15-17 outlines steps for restoration, but if she remains unrepentant, you may need to consider separation for your own well-being (1 Corinthians 7:10-11). Above all, do not carry this burden alone. The Lord sees your suffering, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).

Let us pray together now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage and this precious brother in Christ. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in this home, for Your Word says that where there is strife, there is every evil work (James 3:16). We rebuke the spirit of control, cursing, and manipulation in the mighty name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against this marriage shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against Your servant in judgment shall be condemned (Isaiah 54:17).

Father, we ask for a supernatural work in this wife’s heart. Soften her spirit, convict her of her words, and lead her to repentance. Let her see the damage her actions are causing, not just to her husband, but to her own soul. Replace her anger with Your peace, her bitterness with Your love, and her pride with humility. If there is unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in her life, expose it and bring healing.

Lord, we also pray for our brother. Strengthen him in his weakness, guard his heart from bitterness, and fill him with Your supernatural peace. Give him wisdom to know how to respond, whether in love, correction, or separation, according to Your will. Protect him from the effects of these curses, for You have not given him a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Surround him with godly support, and let him feel Your presence in a tangible way.

We declare restoration over this marriage, but only according to Your perfect will. If this union can be saved, let it be for Your glory. If not, we ask that You would guide our brother into a place of safety and peace. Above all, Lord, let Your name be honored in this situation. We ask all these things in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to You. Amen."

Do not lose hope, dear brother. The Lord is your refuge, and He will not abandon you. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and trust that He is working even in this painful season. You are not powerless, you have the authority of Christ to stand firm, speak truth, and walk in His peace. If you have not already, we urge you to seek counsel from a trusted pastor or biblical counselor who can walk with you through this. You are not alone.

We hear the exhaustion in your words, and we’re not going to add more weight to what you’re already carrying. Living under a steady stream of cursing and control wears a person down in ways that can feel invisible to everyone else. You’re not weak for feeling what you feel, you’re human. And you’re right: what your wife is speaking over you isn’t okay, and it isn’t the language of Christ.

One of the most disorienting things about this kind of conflict is that it isolates you. You end up second-guessing yourself, wondering what you did wrong, or apologizing just to buy a few hours of quiet. That’s not peace; it’s a holding pattern that drains hope. Real peace starts to come when the pattern gets named and faced, not just endured in silence. You don’t have to do that alone.

We’d gently encourage you to reach out to a pastor or a mature believer you trust, someone who can hear you out and then help you discern wise next steps. If your wife is unwilling to join, going on your own still matters. A Christian counselor can also give you both tools to replace destructive patterns with healthier ways of relating, and often that kind of outside support makes a big difference. In the meantime, try to find even one trusted friend you can be real with. That’s not betrayal; it’s letting light into a place that’s been too dark for too long.

We’re praying with you now.

Father, you see this husband’s weariness and the harsh words that have been spoken over him. Please guard his heart from despair. Surround him with steady, wise support. Work in his wife’s heart in ways only you can, soften what is hard, quiet what is angry, and draw her toward your kindness. Give him clarity and courage to take the next right step, not just to survive the day but to move toward real peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The trial you describe is sharp and heavy, a daily cross that makes the heart ache. Indeed, these words you hear are not the fruit of a renewed spirit; they are bitter streams from a troubled fountain. Yet remember this: the Lord Jesus knows what it is to be reviled, and He did not revile in return. Your first and constant resort must be the throne of grace, plead for your wife, for yourself, and for peace within your borders. The God of hope can cause these raging storms to hear His voice, and a great calm may yet come.

But while the storm lasts, where is your peace to be found? Not in the absence of the trial, but in the staying of your mind upon God. "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: because he trusts in You." The word in the margin is "peace, peace", a double portion of it, a flood of it. This peace is not dependent upon outward circumstances. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, even when the din outside is deafening. If your confidence is in Christ alone, then you may have "peace in believing", a peace that fills up the great vacuum caused by sin and sorrow, a sea that has no bottom nor shore.

Consider the Master at home. He went about doing good, and He endured contradiction of sinners against Himself. He found His strength in secret prayer. Oh, for a man who can pray as the Master prayed! Wrestle with God for your household. Even if peace does not come at once to your borders, you can "go in peace" in your own soul. The woman who was a sinner went home with that benediction, though her home was not perfect. If one in your house depresses you, still, go in peace. It will strengthen you to have your own heart at peace through steadfast trust.

Do not seek a false peace by smoothing over her sin or by an uneasy truce bought with compromise. There is a peace of the devil, woven in the loom of ignorance, but it is ruinous. The true peace comes as your mind is stayed on Jehovah, trusting the blood and righteousness of Christ. Let your confidence be not in your peace, not in your joy, but in Christ. He has made peace by the blood of His cross. The bars of your gates must be strengthened by personal holiness and prayer, or the adversary will have an advantage. Stand in your purity, and in your purity alone.

There is no hope in relying upon your own endurance or her change, but there is hope in God. Like the prodigal returning, you may cast yourself upon a Father's love, a Saviour's power, and the Spirit's quickening life. You say you do not know what to do. Do this: trust Jesus with your soul, your home, your all. He will bring you through fire and water to a wealthy place. Only let your life be hid with Christ in God. He that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit, and no tongue of cursing can undo that union. In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they, your loved ones, are in His care also. Therefore, go in peace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
