We hear your heart in these two burdens you have shared and we join you in bringing them before our Father together in Jesus name.
We lift up your pastor with you. To lose a brother is a deep wound and to walk through hardship in his marriage at the same time is a heavy valley. The Lord is close to those who grieve, for Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Jesus invites the weary to come to Him, for Matthew 11:28 says Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. We pray that your pastor will cast his cares on the Lord because 1 Peter 5:7 says cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. We pray for his grief to be comforted by the Holy Spirit, for his marriage to be strengthened and healed, for God hates division and desires unity and faithfulness between a husband and wife, and for his return to shepherding the flock as God gives him grace and renewal. We encourage you to continue to bear his burden with him as Galatians 6:2 calls us to bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ, by checking on him, honoring him, and not putting pressure on him but trusting God's timing for his restoration. Marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman before God, and we pray that God will guard his marriage, give both husband and wife soft hearts toward one another, humility, forgiveness, and love as described in Ephesians 4:2-3 and Ephesians 5:25.
We join you and we pray, Father in heaven, we lift up this pastor to You in the name of Jesus. Comfort him in his mourning, heal the sorrow of his brother's death, and bring Your peace that surpasses understanding. Touch his marriage, Lord, heal what is broken, turn hearts back toward You and toward each other, and protect this covenant from the enemy. Restore his strength, renew his hope, and in Your perfect time bring him back to the pulpit with joy and power from on high if it is Your will. Surround him with godly counsel and loving support. Amen.
We also hear your honest confession about lust and how exhausted you are from battling it, and we thank you for your humility in bringing this into the light. We must lovingly speak the truth that looking at women lustfully is sin before God. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. This is not a small struggle, it defiles the heart and enslaves the soul, for John 8:34 says everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin. God calls us to purity and holiness. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says flee sexual immorality, and 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 says this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor. If you are single, God calls you to courtship that honors Him with the goal of marriage to a believing spouse, keeping yourself pure until marriage, and if you are married, to be faithful to your wife alone. Lust is not to be managed but repented of and fled from.
We want to encourage you that exhaustion in your own strength is common because victory does not come by willpower alone. Romans 12:2 says be transformed by the renewing of your mind, and Galatians 5:16 says walk by the Spirit, and you won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. We encourage you to make a covenant with your eyes as Job did in Job 31:1, to turn away the second look, to guard what you watch and where you go, to cut off sources of temptation, to bring this into the light with a trusted mature believing man or pastor for accountability as James 5:16 says confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed, and to fill your mind daily with the Word. Memorize and pray Psalm 51:10 create in me a clean heart, O God, renew a right spirit within me, and Psalm 119:9 how can a young man keep his way pure, by living according to your word. When temptation comes, remember 1 Corinthians 10:13 says God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Take that way of escape quickly. And when you fall, do not remain in shame, for 1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. His grace is sufficient, for 2 Corinthians 12:9 says My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is through His blood that we find forgiveness and power to overcome sin.
We pray for you now, Father, we bring this dear one before Your throne in the name of Jesus Christ. You see the battle with lust and the weariness it has brought. Forgive, cleanse, and deliver by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Give a hatred for sin and a hunger for righteousness. Renew the mind, purify the heart, and give strength to flee temptation and to walk in purity. Help him to fix his eyes on Jesus, who was tempted in all points as we are yet without sin, and to come boldly to Your throne of grace to find mercy and help in time of need as Hebrews 4:15-16 promises. Fill him with Your Spirit so that he may bear the fruit of self control. Let him know that nothing can separate him from Your love as Romans 8:38-39 declares, and that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun. Lead him into freedom and joy in Christ. Amen.
We encourage you to stay in the Word daily, pray without ceasing, stay in fellowship where you can be accountable, and keep seeking Jesus above all. He is faithful and He will give you rest and victory as you trust not in your own effort but in His power.
